Log In To AmeriCymru ( Welsh Social Network ) Using Facebook, Google, Yahoo ID
By Ceri Shaw, 2010-11-10
Now you can log in to AmeriCymru ( Welsh social network ) using your Facebook, Google or Yahoo ID. If you are a new member joining for the first time use any of these credentials to sign in and you will automatically be logged into AC any time you are logged in to your sign in account ( be it Facebook, Google or Yahoo ). So lets suppose that you are on Facebook and you see a reference to a Forum discussion on which you'd like to comment on AmeriCymru. If you made an account on AC with your Facebook id ll you ave to do is click on the link and you'll automatically be signed in to AmeriCymru and taken to the page. Same with Google if you're logged in to your Gmail account ( provided you used your gmail id to create your AmeriCymru account )
Of course if you use the same username/password combo for all services then you only have to sign in to any one of the above three and you are logged in to AmeriCymru.
A Few Questions Answered
What information is transferred when a new member signs up?
When a new member signs up with a Google or Yahoo account, we are able to automatically pull in their name and email address. When they sign up via a Facebook account, we can additionally pull in a profile photo, birthdate, gender, and in the coming weeks location, if the user allows that data to be pulled. Note that to have this new sign-up method pull profile photos, birthdates, gender and location, youll need to make sure your network has those profile questions set up.
What if an existing member tries to sign in with a different Facebook, Google, or Yahoo email address?
Undoubtedly, some existing members may try to Sign In via Facebook, Google, or Yahoo right from the Sign In page, even if they originally signed up with a different email address and password. When this happens, they'll be signed right in if the email address provided by Facebook, Google, and Yahoo matches the one they originally joined with. If it does not match, they'll be told that no account exists, and will be asked to sign in. Once they sign in, they can link their accounts (even if the email addresses are different) by going to their Settings-Connections page.
Actually I'm not sure how "traditional" or "Welsh" this recipe is but here it is anyway:-

The above recipe for fried frogs and boiled eels is yet another culinary masterpiece from "Good Cookery Illustrated And Recipes Communicated by the Welsh Hermit of the Cell of St. Gover" which can be found along with many other fine things on Google Books.
( Many thanks to Wild Canary for bringing this to my attention )

This is an important post not because it marks a new policy for this site but more of a new departure. We have had the capacity for some time to incorporate blogs via RSS feeds and Twitter streams into the AmeriCymru Activity Feed.
In the past we have held back from using Twitter feeds because Twitter is a vast site and any topic that is trending on there ( or even if it is not in many cases ) will quickly overrun the front page on AC. We have not incorporated blog RSS feeds because we did not wish to appear to be favoring one online author over another.
In future we propose that:-
1. We WILL feature Twitter feeds from time to time, probably with advance warning, particularly during major rugby matches ( Six Nations etc ) or if , as in the case of the reaction to the recent Daily Mail article by Roger Lewis, a lively and amusing Welsh themed discussion is occurring.
2. We WILL feature three Welsh blogs. I will start the ball rolling tomorrow BUT we will be looking for nominations from you, dear reader, for subsequent weeks. We will need 3 or more nominations per week. What will happen is that any new posts in the featured blogs will appear automatically in the AC Activity Feed. Since most bloggers only update once a day ( if that ) there is little chance that the feed will be overwhelmed as a consequence.
SO please get your nominations in AND please remember we will not be accepting comments on the R. Lewis 'article' linked above. The Forum is probably the best place for that.
PLEASE NOTE WE ARE LOOKING FOR BLOGS THAT HAVE AN RSS FEED AND UPDATE AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK. YOU ARE WELCOME TO NOMINATE YOUR OWN BLOG IF YOU WISH.

A short post today as family commitments and others ( work, training etc ) bite into the available time. I thought I'd take a moment to celebrate some of the true heroes of long distance running.
Firstly there's this guy Phil Thomas . He is planning to run 12 half marathons in twelve consecutive days. According to the linked article he "spends his evenings nursing his pains with ice". He finishes on Sunday by running the AirProductsUK - twice!!!! I dont know what level of fitness you need to reach to be able to do that but I'm glad that I only aspire to running once. Will be checking the news on Sunday to see if he made it. Best of luck Phil
Of course if you really want to suffer there is no surer way than by donning a restrictive and cumbersome costume and potentially doubling your fluid loss on warm days. This man is the master:-

Latest From David Western - "The walnut board from which the spoon will emerge"
By Ceri Shaw, 2008-11-03
Here it is, the walnut board from which the Eisteddfod spoon will emerge!
Although it doesn't look like much at the moment, especially covered in dried glue, flecks of old paint and the dust of a century and a half, I am very confident there is a spectacular spoon waiting inside.
As you can see, there are a number of holes scattered around the board which were where big screws or nails were driven through the old cabinet holding it to the wall. I have found two or three different areas of this piece where the spoon will fit without running into a hole, so now I just have to settle on the one I think will yield the sweetest grain figure. Right now, I'm leaning heavily to using the wood nearest the edge of the board as it has a section of swirling grain which should line up right where I want the bowls to be. That will make the carving a bit trickier in this area, but will make spectacular bowls which should shimmer as light passes over them.
This wood has something of a history the condensed version I will relate. Apparently, the wood forms the back panels of a wonderful bar which originally was built approximately 150 years ago for a steam ship which traversed the seas between Ireland, the UK and Europe. When the ship was scrapped, the bar was removed and spent many years in a small town pub in Ireland. A number of years ago the bar was purchased by a large hotel in Victoria BC who have now used it as the centerpiece of their off-license shop. The back panels were unnecessary during installation and were scrapped. Fortunately for me and whoever gets this spoon, the pieces were retrieved from the dumpster and found their way to me, where they found a very warm welcome and the opportunity for a new life.
I can't wait to see how this lovespoon turns out!
Draw the blackout curtains, put on your gas mask, take cover under the stairs, and settle down for a good read
Do you enjoy reading about fighting and killing, bombing and burning, gassing and ghastliness? If so, this is the book for you.
Woeful Wales at War is the second book in the Wicked Walesseries published by Pont Books. Following on from The Troublesome Tudors and Sleazy Stuarts, this new publication by Catrin Stevens focuses on Wales during the First and Second World Wars, and as is customary in the Wicked Wales series, the humour is often of the grim variety.
Fascinating facts, witty text and humorous illustrations help bring history to life in a light and entertaining way that engages childrens interest.
