05/29/10 09:09:57PM, by Paul Mathias
Hi all, My name is Paul Mathias, iam an ex service man from Bridgend in South Wales. I am a fund raiser for a charity here in Wales. We are trying to raise funds to re open an unused mansion and make it into a recovery centre for serving and ex serving members of our armed forces with PTSD. There are recovery units in England,Scotland and Northern Ireland but there are no plans for any in Wales, thats why a small band of people have got together to help the healing process here in Wales.Our...
Examples of Welsh Influence on America
08/06/08 10:55:46PM, by Ian Price
I'll start you all off.In 1826 a Welsh woman living in Wales called Felicia Dorothea Hemans came across an article - two years out of date - in a newspaper from Massachusetts. It had been used to wrap up some goods she'd purchased. The article concerned a founders' day celebration in Plymouth in which the Pilgrim Fathers and The Mayflower were mentioned. Inspired she took pen in hand and wrote a poem called ' The Landing of the Pilgrim Fathers ( in New England ).This poem has given millions...
The Welsh Highland Railway
02/09/11 12:55:42PM, by Gaynor Madoc Leonard
Anyone visiting Wales this year might like to add the Welsh Highland Railway to their itinerary. It's a 25 mile journey from Caernarfon via Beddgelert (readers of The Carmarthen Underground might glimpse the tea plantations there!). Eventually, it will terminate at Porthmadog but even without that it promises to be a spectacular journey. Information can be found on the Festrail website.
Welsh referendum March the 3d
03/02/11 02:01:05AM, by TARW DU
This Thursday March the 3d 2011 is a Welsh referendum day on more efficient lawmaking powers for the National Assembly of Wales. This is the only chance in a generation to say yes to a Wales that can pass laws in the already devolved areas without having to go begging for permission like vagabonds to the Government in London . It is basic common sense that will save Wales time and money whilst giving us greater efficiency and self respect. A yes vote would give Wales...

A Welsh Hard-Rock Mine
04/01/11 11:49:36PM, by Stephen Peter Lloyd Harvey
Silver-Lead Mining was once a major industry in Cardiganshire (Ceredigion) and Montgomeryshire. In 1860 there were over 100 mines in operation. The 1880's were unkind! Competition from Australia and Colorado wrecked the market. Many of our Welsh Miners emigrated to the Red Mountain Mining area of Colorado (San Juan Mountains) near Silverton. We have rescued a whole mine from obscurity and reconstructed it! Now I need to retire (it's taken 36 years to achieve) and we have looked at open...
Welsh Poetry Competition 2010
01/10/10 04:25:00PM, by DaveLewis
The new international competition is now open folks - http://www.welshpoetry.co.uk and we are keen to get many more US writers onboard as we know many people there write great poetry. Based in Pontypridd we are in our 4th year now and need help promoting the competition further afield as we do not get any grants or bursaries from the Arts Council or Academi and we rely purely on entry fees to keep going. Please pass on to anyone who might be interested.Diolch yn...

The 1911 Welsh census
04/11/10 03:26:07PM, by Eilir Ann Daniels
I thought you'd like to seethe attached article, written by me in response to the publication of the 1911Welsh census. Many references to genealogical sources in Wales are usually based around themindset For Wales, see England. True, Wales has broadly followed the samemodel as England as far as official documents are concerned. However, thatmindset tends to disregard any particular Welsh issues that influence thecontent of historical documents. From years of helping people trace theirancestry...

A Welsh Octogenarian Remembers by Bel Roberts
11/26/17 08:42:51PM, by Bel Roberts2
In ‘the good old days’ we knew our fated place in the God-forsaken, odd, mistaken scheme of things. Dirt-poor, we bore the burdens of our race: bound, gagged, oppressed, mere Celtic underlings. School photos show us boxed in classroom stocks, that fettered brain and will as much as limb, in adults’ cut-down tweeds and shapeless smocks, like sepia shrouds, funereal and grim. At play, we cloned screen heroes, tyrants, crooks, stampeded sheep and rodeo-rode a few; swarmed over hills; swung...
