Geoff, there is some information about the Captain Rogers, I have photos of him and his wife, one of their daughter was the second wife of my great grandfather Edward Owen, they had six children. Here in my house I have some books that tell something about his life, but not much, I know he traveled from Wales from the U.S.A and settled there for a while, then he decide with other welshmen living there to move to Patagonia to join the welsh colony. His ship, the Electric Spark, wrecked in front of the brazilian coast, and they lost most of their possesions. They finally arrived at the colony with great suffering and sacrifice. The captain fought in the Crimea war but that is the information that I haven't found until now, maybe some descendant of him would know more about his life.Did you see the photo of the grave of the first archdruid in Patagonia?, It is in my page. Hwyl!
No the Church is ruined and abandoned. They are very mysterious graves. Nothing at all is known about the people who lie benath the stones.I was working away at your previous Captain Rogers query when your mesage arrived. I didn't realise that the settlement in Chubut had a connection with the story of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid!Part of the gravestone says W. E . Rogers. Died in January 1909 aged 82 years having lived 35 years in the Welsh settlement. His wife Martha passed away 2 years later on 13 Febrary 1911 aged 83 years. I am still working on the story! It is fascinating!
what if this graves could tell us their history!!, is there a registry in the church?
