Either place is fine. Both blogs address the same issue ( external commenting ) altho with different platforms. The FB comment feature has now been removed. It wasnt displaying correctly and it slowed pageload times. Besides, chatwing allows ANYONE to comment, not just FB members. And yes...there are still a few people left in the world who are not on Facebook
Should We Add Facebook Commenting To AmeriCymru Discussions?
Hope so I may try adding a popup explaining the moderation schedule, something like 'This board is checked daily and spammy, irrelevant or peurile comments will be removed. Please use this feature to leave comments , suggestions and/or suggestions for bookstore listings ONLY'
Unless you have 24/7 moderation, some people will see it. But, I think that most people will understand.
Yep I am able to delete but unfortunately I cant moderate i.e. pre approve messages...so I guess a certain amount of link dropping is inevitable Have to see how it goes.
Looks okay. I'm more of a message board type myself, which is why FB works for me. Also, the games. Can't not mention the games. And, grandkid pics.
But, the chat feature seems to be working all right. I see a few people have tried it out. No spam yet. Would you be able to delete a spam message once someone reports it?
btw What do you think of the new Chatwing box on the bookstore front page? http://americymru.net/page/americymru-bookstore-1 It addresses the same problem in a way i.e. allowing non-members to comment. Its there mainly for bookstore listing suggestions but we could employ it more widely on the site. Hope we dont get deluged with spam tho ( it allows anonymous comments and links )
Agreed! FB has made a lot of bad moves recently. It seems that they want to BE the internet and monopolise all our dealings with it. Cant see that working out for them somehow.
I'd think it's more the moves FB's making, changing things, getting a little too nosey without warning members and all, switching the mail system, stuff like that. (But, then, I didn't do any surveys.) If Google and Pinterest do the same things, watch people bail from them, too. Actually got upset at the Google Android app for being set to automatically upload photos to G+ - had to manually change that on my phone. Shouldn't have to, should be the other way around - same with FB's usual opt-out policy.
W i wedi hoffi'r AC page. Diolch!
Actually there is a lot of evidence to suggest that Facebook usage is in decline at the moment ( http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/12347927-survey-shows-a-34-percent-decline-in-facebook-usage ) as new social networking sites like Google+ and Pinterest start to eat its lunch
It is still too big to ignore, however, and yes...we do have a Facebook page, several in fact. Here is the main one:-
Does AC have a FB page? I know it seems redundant to have more than one web presence, but with more and more people using FB, there might be a completely different audience that would use it.
I'm not sure what I think about being able to log on either with AC or FB. In some cases, where I haven't had an account before, and having an account is necessary for participation, it's come in handy. But, when I do have a previous account, it just mixes things up. Completely ambivalent on FB access.
Not the end of the world Ceri. Not sure we need FB! Thanks for trying.
Oh well I guess this was an experiment that failed. It shows up inconsistently, does not display all comments, slows down pageload time and is generally buggy . We will just have to wait until the platform releases official code for this later on in the year. Meanwhile there are plenty of ways to share on Facebook and to interact with it generally. Built in FB commenting WILL BE BACK and next time....it will work
I will be removing the code later on today.
Hello Ceri,
Thanks for info.
Additionally AC members will still be able to comment using the AC comment system. There is no intention either now or at any time in the future to remove that.
You may need to check the 'Post To Profile' checkbox below the comment box.
Hi John
Agreed privacy is a very important consideration. However I do not think we have very much to fear in this case. IF we go ahead Facebook will NOT have any access to additional data from this site. The plugin simply inserts a Facebook comment box on certain pages. Anything posted will be posted on FB BUT visible on AC. I repeat NO data will be made available to Facebook servers. Hope that puts your mind at rest
I use to have a FB account for several years, but recently deleted my account. FB has security issues, and I do not really trust it. FBis a billion dollar industry. How sure are you that they will not sell your privacy?
Logged into FB okay, but post wouldn't post.
Trying through AC log-in.
Not sure we should be involved with FB.
Diolch Peter
It posted to both all right.
yes
Hmmmmm....a bit flaky. Sometimes it loads and sometimes not. I am informed that it will settle down after an hour or two. We'll see
This is another one of those 'killer tips' from Ning Creators As you can see from this thread results are somewhat inconsistent:- http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/killer-tip-add-facebook-comment-box-to-every-forum-page?id=4244211%3ATopic%3A1089696&page=1#comments
Looking for volunteers to post test posts above in both the system and FB comments boxes. If you dont want to post to your FB profile just uncheck the 'Post To Profile' checkbox. Diolch.
testing
I have added the code so you should be able to use the Facebook commenting system on this page and on any Discussion page on AC. Let me know what you think either on here or on FB
