Son of Meyrick & Irene Sheen, the family returned back to Wales after five years in Liverpool and set up home in Port Talbot. As a youth he joined the West Glamorgan Youth Theatre, and was a contemporary of the director Russell T Davies. He studied at the National Youth Theatre of Wales, Cardiff and also trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London. During his second year at RADA he had his first film appearance opposite Vanessa Redgrave in When She Danced. At the Old Vic in London and Broadway he performed as Mozart in the play Amadeus to high acclaim. Michael had a long relationship with Kate Beckinsale with whom he has a daughter Lily Mo Sheen. In 2008 he was awarded freedom of the borough of Neath & Port Talbot he also received an OBE and was named actor of the year in GQ Magazine. He is patron of the London based charity Scene & Heard. Among his achievements he has been nominated for such prestigious awards as BAFTA, & EMMY and with such bodies as BATA & RTSA. A great character actor well adapted to playing the roles of true figures such as the Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Deal, Special Relationships, and The Queen, David Frost in Frost & Nixon, Brian Clough in the film Damned United and Kenneth Williams in Fantabulosa. He is also renowned for the portrayal of Aro in New Moon, from the Twilight Saga, series, and he also appeared in Underworld, & Alice in Wonderland.
