Dydd GwylDewiHapus!
On that note, I'm looking for other current learners of the language or native speakers with Dewi Sant like patience to converse with in writing or, perhaps, occasionally via skype to practice as there's no community of Welsh speakers in my area (not that I know of anyway) ...
Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus
I received this this morning from a Welsh friend in Kansas and thought I'd share it.
St. David's Day in United States
Quick Facts
Many Welsh communities in the United States celebrate the life of their patron saint, St David, and their links with Wales on St Davids Day.Local names
I received this poem from an artist friend who marked it as "A Welsh Poet for St. David's Day":Anyone Can SingAnyone can sing. You just open your mouth, and give shape to a sound. Anyone can sing. What is harder, is to proclaim the soul,to initiate a wild and necessary deepening:to give the voice broad, sonorous wingsof solitude, grief, and celebration,to fill the body with the echoes of voiceslost long ago to bravery, and silence,to prise the reluctant heart wide open,to witness defeat, to suffer contempt,to shrink, lose face, go down in ignominy,to retreat to the last dark hiding-placewhere the tattered remnants of your pridestill gather themselves around your nakedness,to know these rags as your only protectionand yet still open - to face the possibilitythat your innermost core may hold nothing at all,and to sing from that - to fill the voidwith every hurt, every harm, every hard-won joythat staves off death yet honours its coming,to sing both full and utterly empty, alone and conjoined, exiled and at home,to sing what people feel most keenlyyet never acknowledge until you sing it.Anyone can sing. Yes. Anyone can sing.~ William Ayot ~(Small Things that Matter)
