The Bottom bridge was built by Monks in 1087. The Welsh name for Devils Bridge is Pontarfynach - 'Monks Bridge'. There would have been a steep path down to it on each side, so a higher bridge was needed by 1700 for Horses and carriages. The top Bridge is from 1900, rebuilt 1971.
