This lovespoon is meant to convey a sentiment of love and affection. Approximately 11” The dark designs that appear scribed into the face of the spoon are shallow cuts with a knife – an old, Swedish technique, called Kolrosing. The design is “drawn” into the wood with a knife (very difficult to see as you carve), then sanded, and originally, coal dust was rubbed in to make the lines stand out. Today, fine coffee grounds are the preferred material to fill the lines.
This spoon happens to be my first attempt with kolrosing, and also happens to be a very true example of an attempt to “doodle.” I made up every part of the design as I went, which is a very unusual thing for me to do. So,if nothing else made this spoon special, the fact that it’s the first of its kind from me certainly distinguishes it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
