This tapered Celtic Braid represents two lives, joined together for eternity – approximately 11”. It’s carved in the round, with a gentle curve along the length of the braid. Because I can’t help but to get carried away, many of the overlapping parts have been separated, but I also left many touching, just to make the spoon more stable, as it’s made from basswood, which is the softest, weakest wood that I ever use – creating a little more challenge in the carving. This design is a great example of how critical it is to plan carefully, and pay close attention to what you’re doing, all the way through every step of the carving process.
