Richard Burton spoke no English until the age of 10 and was one of 13 children, he took his stage name from his school teacher and mentor Philip Burton. Richard won a scholarship to Oxford University and it was there he first started to act on stage. Throughout his whole career he never worked on St Davids Day, as part of his contracts.
His first marriage was to Sybil Williams with whom he had two children Kate & Jessica. Later with Elizabeth Taylor he had three very turbulent marriages and was also married to Susan Hunt ex-wife of the racing driver James Hunt.
Some of the great films in which he starred were The Robe, Desert Rats, Alexandra the Great, The Spy who came in from the Cold, The Wild Geese, Whos Afraid of Virginia Wolf, Anne of the Thousand Days, Look Back in Anger, Equus, Cleopatra, Where Eagles Dare, Dylan Thomass, Under Milk Wood, and numerous other Films.
Burton, not only achieved public acclaim, but other actors regard him as one of the greatest actors of our time.
