To: UK National Lottery, Cadw An important Welsh national historic site, the home of the poet Hedd Wyn, Ellis Evans, visited by more than 3,000 people a year, was rejected for funding by the UK National Lottery and Cadw.
As Evans' family has kept up his home and maintained it open to visitors, as Evans' last surviving relative has become too old to maintain it alone, as this building is a monument to Evans and his work and an important cultural and historic site and the cost of maintaining it for visitors was quoted as only 50,000.00, we the undersigned respectfully request that the maintenance of this site be funded by the UK National Lottery, which was created for just such projects as this and that a grant in that amount be approved by the lottery funders.

Hi, Neill, I think we all have to inform and transmit this petition in order to get one million signatures, seems a lot?, I believe it is possible. Hwyl!
Thank you,Claudio for bringing this petition to our attention.Being from N.E.Wales I realise how potentially destuctive this kind of policy can be to our local communities and to our language.Diolch
Trying to get funds from CADW(Celebrate All Defeats Welsh) is like getting blood from a stone where the subject in question is Welsh. The couple who own Garth Celyn, the site of the Llys of the Princes of Gwynedd, were refused funds yet a 17th century English manor house down the road was granted money.good luck with the petition I'm just off to sign it.
This is another very important petition I think we all here in the site ought to sign, the "Deffro'r Ddraig (Waking the Dragon)" petition: 'RightTo BeWelsh1' ("Derecho a ser gals"), Let's do it HERE
SIgned, but many more are needed.

I understand that Heritage Lottery Funding Applications for such a sum would have been considered in Cardiff by the Committee for Wales. I do not know what exact funding was particularly requested by Mr Gerald Williams to enable his family farmhouse, Yr Ysgwrn, to continue to welcome visitors. The HLF did, I see, contribute to the making of the acclaimed film about Hedd Wyn? The article in the Daily Post of 29th July suggests that Trawsnewid might be interested in helping. Trawsnewid is a community project at the nearby village of Trawsfynydd and has established an excellent little Visitor Centre. It has a permanent exhibition about the two famous "sons" of the area, Hedd Wyn, and The Blessed, St John Roberts, one of the 40 Martyrs of 1610, and sanctified by Pope John Paul in 1970. ( his Uncle was my direct ancestor ). It seems to me that Trawsnewydd might find a solution, and perhaps be well placed to appeal for funding? I will contact them about this. Trawsfynydd is, across the mountains ( as the Raven or Chough flies ), but 3 miles from where I live. ( Nor have I ever before posted a "Comment" on any Blog....) R.W-E
Have just added it to my "I Love Wales" forum here: http://www.pontytown.co.uk/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=8
