AmeriCymru: Hi Lynfa and many thanks for agreeing to be interviewed by AmeriCymru. When did you first become interested in genealogy?
Lynfa: I became interested in Geneology in 2003 when I began to research my own and my husband family.
AmeriCymru: Care to tell us a little about the Glamorgan Family History Society ? What is the history of the group and where can they be found and contacted online?
Lynfa: Glamorgan family history society is a charity and established in 1974 to help people research their family who have lived in the area.
AmeriCymru: How can the Glamorgan Family History Society help people with family from the Glamorgan area trace their roots?
Lynfa: I help once a month with meetings in the Rhondda and Pontypridd area in our local museum.
AmeriCymru: What general advice would you give to people who have hit a brick wall in their genealogical researches?
Lynfa: If you have hit a brick wall, there are lots of people out their willing to help. I help run a facebook page called Glamorgan F H Society we have over 850 members from all over the world.
AmeriCymru: You are also involved in a new venture - "The Rhondda Historical Society'. Care to tell us a little more about this initiative?
Lynfa: Our first meeting for the Rhondda Historical Society meets tonight. It is a way of enableing people to listen to various lectures and learn about the Rhondda. It is also a social event a way of getting to know other members who are interested in History. We Plan field trips in the summer.
I have been studying local history for the past four years, sadly our local councils are closing public libraries in the area due to lack of funding. I hope that our new RHSociety will be a way of adding culture to this area.
AmeriCymru: What's next for Lynfa Maeer?
Lynfa: Next who knows ! If any members on your site are interested please join us.
