.
You are warmly invited to the Washington Welsh St. David's Day banquet at the Cosmos Club on Saturday, February 22nd . Please find attached the invitation and reservation form.
.
The Cosmos Club, in a stunning Beaux Arts building, provides a suitably elegant setting for us to celebrate our beloved Dewi Sant. The Club and our Society are an excellent marriage, both dating back to the 1800s, sharing a rich history and a common vision as "centers of good fellowship, where members can meet socially and exchange ideas." Over the years the Cosmos Club's members have included numerous U.S. Presidents, Vice Presidents and Supreme Court justices, as well as a large number of Nobel Peace Prize winners, Pulitzer Prize winners and recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
.
Since moving the banquet to the Cosmos Club, a full house of Welsh descendants and enthusiasts have enjoyed a high standard offood, service, and entertainment. In 2011, Catrin Rowenna Davies (accompanied by James Harp) enchanted us with her Welsh repertoire. And last year Moch Pryderi upped the tempo with their broad range of Celtic music.
.
This year we are delighted to welcome Ellen Williams,a well-known soloist in Wales, who is traveling across the Atlantic to share with us her love of Welsh music and traditions. Ellen has had considerable success competing both nationally and internationally, notably in Oratorio singing and traditional Welsh Folk singing. She has shared the concert stage with Wynne Evans and Catrin Finch, and recently sang the part of The Minstrel -alongside Dennis O'Neil and Rebecca Evans -in the British premier of The Bards of Wales , composed and conducted by Karl Jenkins.
.
Among our distinguished guests this year, we are honored to have Delegate Sheila Hixson with us again. For the past two consecutive years Del. Hixson has presented the Society with a Proclamation from Governor O'Malley, recognizing March 1st as St. David's Day in the state of Maryland. We are glad there is an abundance of Celtic blood among politicians and notable individuals, in Washington DC and neighboring states, and we will be announcing more distinguished guests in the coming weeks.
.
We look forward to seeing familiar faces and hopefully some new ones. We encourage you to bring along other family members and friends to join us for, what we hope will be, another beautiful night of fine food, festive entertainment, good laughs, and lasting friendship.
.
Iechyd Da! .
