Rhyl Miniature Railway Centenary
The Rhyl Miniature Railway , the UK's oldest miniature line open to the public, celebrated its Centenary over the British Spring Bank Holiday Weekend May 28-30.. Alan Cliff who is President of the "Friends of the Rhyl Miniature Railway" was asked if he would carry out book signings of his Jack the Station Cat children's books as part of the attractions. No publicity was given in case his eye cataract operation a fortnight before the event did not allow him to be present. Fortunately it did not prevent him attending.

The railway does not have a shop which folk can browse round. All selling is done via the ticket office windows at the railway's one station. So a table was placed on the station platform. Alan Cliff carried out four sessions: Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday and Monday afternoons. During these periods the shop sold and Alan signed a total of 160 Jack books. An exhausting but most satisfying experience. Railway buffs might like to know that the little railway, its gauge is only 15 inches, carried over 4400 passengers during its 100th birthday celebrations.
