Good and bad news for Wales for Rugby World Cup

By Lesli ben Jenkins, 2011-08-14

Wales beat England 19-9 yesterday in a hard fought game at the Millenium Stadium Cardiff. The good news though was that the win was a great moral booster for the upcoming World Cup in New Zealand as England are one of the favourites, the bad news was that Gavin Henson made his long awaited return to the side only to get badly injured.he will miss the World Cup.Les Jenkins.

Welsh Footie over the w/e

By Lesli ben Jenkins, 2011-08-14

Cardiff City just went top of the Championship by beating the team tother side of the Severn. They beat Bristol City 3-1 with Capt. Mark Hudson getting the 1st goal from a cross by Craig Conway. .Conway then got the 2nd goal and Rob Earnshaw on his home debut [2nd time around] got the 3rd from a tap in after Don Cowie's shot had been parried by David James in goal.Cowie scored last weeks winner against West Ham and then got his 1st callup for Scotland.

Down in the Conference things wern't quite so good as Newport Co. lost their 1st game of the season,Wrecsam drew theirs 1-1 with Cambridge Utd.However Colwyn Bay played their 1st ever game in the Conference North after promotion last season and won 2-0 away from home at Bishop Stortford.

Swansea kick off their 1st ever Premier league campaign tomorrow against Man.City.It will be on ESPN 2 @ 2.55 eastern.

Mr Nice the film

By Lesli ben Jenkins, 2011-08-03

Forgot to mention earlier that this film is currently released in the States. It is a "cultural" film ,not mainstream so you will have to check listing for your local specialist sinema, or failing that wait for the DVD.Pob hwyl,Les Jenkins.

The wife and I went to see Mr Nice at the Tivoli herte in stLouis MO on Saturday. I highly recommend this film to anybody Welsh[or not Welsh for that matter].Without giving the plot away, it's about a young Welsh teddyboy in the early 60's[Rhys Ifans]who does so well at school in the Valleys that his headmaster recommends him to take the Oxford Uni test.He passes and goes to Oxford where he soon becomes a hippy. He then graduates from Oxford after passing all his exams for teaching but then circumctances change and he becomes[true stori apparently] the most notorious drug dealer in the UK outwiting the British Gov. for a couple of decades.Great drama combined with wonderful wit.The nostalgic backdrop of Wales and London with period cars and lorrys highly entertaining too.Les Jenkins.

ps I won't say anything about Bangor Cities 1st venture into the champions league.

Dinas Bangor lose 1st Leg of Champions league debut

By Lesli ben Jenkins, 2011-07-13

Bangor City lost their 1st ever game in the European Champions League0-3 to HJK Helsinki. They played a great game apparently but got caught on the brake in each half.Bangor had many shots on goal but none went in and of course that's what counts.2nd leg will be next week in Finland but will be a massive uphill task.

The Welsh FA has invited Newport County,Wrexham and Merthyr Tydfil to play in the Welsh FA cup as of next year.As these teams currently play in English leagues they has been un-invited in recent years but have been welcomed back.Colwyn Bay,Cardiff and Swansea will not participate.Les Jerkins.

Wales avoid wooden spoon in 4 nations

By Lesli ben Jenkins, 2011-05-28

The Welsh football team earned their first win since Gary Speed took over today to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.2-0 was the score.Arsenals Aaron Ramsey [the captain]scored 1st and Rob Earnshaw got the 2nd when he came on as a sub.Craig Bellamy also returned to the side today.

Don't get too excited though as they only beat Northern Ireland, probably one of the worst teams in Europe right now with tons of injuries.Game was played in Dublin [Wonder why]and only 529 people turned up to watch.528 Welshmen and 1 N Irishman.I wonder if this sort of attendance will encourage a repeat of the newly renewed tournament next year.

Don't forget to watch Swansea beat Reading on Mon am at 9 Eastern on FSC.Les Jenkins.

Meic Stevens interview.

By Lesli ben Jenkins, 2011-05-11
Ceri, Thanks very much for an extremely interesting interview with Meic Stevens. It was very informative about the current musical and entertainment situation in Wales for Welsh speakers/singers.I have been a fan of Meic's for years [even fitting him into my radio shows over here]and it's great to know he's still as opinionated and concerned as ever and still doing his thing.Long may he continue to do so.Les Jenkins.
