Promoting Wales in the USA

What a happy controversy. I missed the whole thing for a number of reasons. I put my link and invite to Americymru on my FB page months ago. Some of my people joined, I think. I got on to see photos of my grandchild and found many of my old friends and family that I had 'lost' because I got sick and moved away. So, even though Fb has glitches, like wanting to own my photos and changing formats so it is difficult to keep up, it still has a good purpose in my life.It seems a bit ignorant to be doing what they are doing with the Welsh cities but then it might not just be picking on Wales. There are rumors that Obama is melting us together with Mexico and Canada. We are supposed to be learning Spanish and French.I would prefer to learn my Welsh, but first I have to get busy and take care of my goats. Hope all is well there in Americymru land. We had a tornado today and some of our neighbors lost roofs. An Amish family a mile down the road lost their barn. Most of the animals are okay. They lost one horse and a cow. But the family says they were blessed because an hour later they all would have been in the barn doing chores. Is anyone upset about the Census Fraud with the GPS on the front doors?

The Welsh Snow/Sand Castle Contest

General Discussions ( Anything Goes )

Great job, guys! I was too busy shovelling snow to notice the contest notice. We still have plenty of time to enter, though with our weather. We just don't have a camera at the mo...you will have to imagine:)

Hey, Everybody, Should We Have a New Name and a New Logo?

Promoting Wales in the USA

You guys are really thinking. Gaabi, you and Ceri have done so much of the work, I hope you keep your fingers in the pie and don't change it too much...this adding groups if other countries start a group is the best of the ideas, I think. And thanks for keeping it calm and clean...I am trying to encourage the family to participate. The fact that you are even discussing this is a testiment to your success. Congrats.

Hmmm...this came up in the wrong place. I liked the first idea with one dragon...however, the competition sounds like fun, too. You might still end up with what you started with, though. I think that is good.

Ta and thanks...since I am an American mongrel like many people. It seems the name and logo are drawing all those people from everywhere. Maybe you should stick with what is working?

Gaabi, this was fun! and I learned alot about the whiskey industry, too. I have a brand new grand nephew named Jasper and several toddlers relatives named Jack:) I was wondering where the names were coming from.the daffodil crafts will be fun to try. I have done some cut out crafts with daffys myself, though I don't follow directions.I also meant to tell you how inviting your St. David's table was. The china and flowers and of course the food and the view all were very homey. We never had St. David's celebrations but the food is very familiar to all the other holiday celebrations.I got some recipes off of the Philadelphia Welsh Societies page. Those recipes...Teisen Nionod (Onion Cake) and Picau ar y maen (Griddle tea cakes) are very similar to dishes I make regularly. I just made the leek and potatoe, and cheese dish the other day. There are so many variations, it just depends on what is on hand.I am not sure how to put the web addresses on like you did. I will attempt it someday soon. There is a St. David's Society in Utica NY. I talked to someone there today to see if they knew about your site. Hopefully, all my questions will generate some interest and contacts for you. Ta.

Lively reading! Number three of Gareth's reasons...'wild on the fringe'...my son, Ian, and I talk often about feeling just that where ever we may be. It must be the Welsh in us.

Iconic Yanks from a Welshmans perspective

General Discussions ( Anything Goes )

Interesting to be a fly on the wall in this discussion. I spent last winter reading bios of George Washington and other of America's Founding Fathers. Earlier today I was reading some of the papers written during that era on a website called Campaign for Liberty. One of you, in another discussion said that people just don't know their history.Even though I know a smattering, discussions like this make me realize that there is still a whole lot left to learn. Something new everyday...eh?I am learning a bunch more from this site about the Welsh heros. Again, I knew a smattering, but am looking forward to learning more.Thanks.
