One of the ladies has told me it wasn't quite as Harrods claimed but hopefully they will have learned their lesson.
Wearing Welsh costume at Harrods (Rod Liddle - Sunday Times 10 Mar 2013)
I have to believe that the store security people got a bit of a tongue-lashing from the legal department.
*sigh* Ludicrous.
Liddle has a column every week in the Sunday Times, as does Jeremy Clarkson.
This column is from the Sunday Times? Just wondering--considering the pinkish background it looks more like the Financial Times. Either way, it sounds more like the "Archie BunkerGazette" The author seems to be an equal opportunity bigot casting aspersions on the rich (vulgar), Arab women (dressed "gaily" like Darth Vader) and the non-costumed Welsh (keep an eye on them).
They were allowed in at another entrance although they complained discrimination. The store has apologised.
A picture on BBC news online shows how respectable they looked (it was a hen party!).
I think we all need to be able to laugh at ourselves and Liddle can be funny but I just worry that he has lost his way and hides a nasty side behind his humour. I might be wrong but he has done it so many times now that I am a bit wary, that's all.
I'll have a look, thanks. AA Gill has commented on the Welsh in the past but I still like his columns. Liddle's comment about Harrods allowing in women in middle eastern dress is amusing though.
I know Gaynor but Liddle has been pretty nasty about the Welsh in the past. I took him to the race relations people once. Check him out on other racist links on Wikipedia they also have some things to say about him admitting to beating his pregnant wife.
I'm not accusing Rod Liddle of prejudice - I enjoy his column and I know he just likes to provoke. I was talking about Harrods!
Be wary Rod Liddle has form in this area.
Not sure what the legal position is on this but it seems like racial prejudice.
