Hey, Rees -Thanks for posting. I couldn't agree with you more on the need for more attention for Wales and American-Welsh heritage. In my experience, lack of media coverage has nothing to do with "political correctness." It has do with most Americans not knowing squat about Wales. I've told other people this and I apologize if I am being tiresome in repeating it but I've done a little survey for years and asked people where the names Williams or Evans or Griffiths come from. Everyone I've ever asked has said those names are "American" or a few said they were English. When I told them those were Welsh surnames, they were surprised and usually wanted to know more about Wales and Welsh surnames. Many of the people I've talked to didn't know what Wales was or where it was.I doubt there's any prejudice in the United States against Wales or the Welsh, it's ignorance and ignorance is cured with education. If we want people to do something, to become interested and engaged in a cause, we have to educate and inspire them.If you want media to pay attention to you, you have to offer them something to pay attention TO. They don't just show up at public events by a happy accident, they're invited by people who send them big, fat press packs complete with press releases about interesting, colorful and news worthy events with nice photographs and then follow it up by calling and calling and calling and calling them to ensure that they come and many times providing lunch and other inducements to get them there. A HUGE amount of work goes into getting any press for anything at all. We moved MOUNTAINS to get press for the Left Coast Eisteddod last year, everyone thought a Welsh event was cool and wanted to know more about Wales and were excited once we got their attention but first we had to get their attention. The more we make positive events and bring attention to America's Welsh heritage and modern Welsh culture, the greater the recognition of Wales and Welsh heritage will be, which is why we're here. In closing let me say that any contributions to the MLMEF in support of the Left Coast Eisteddfod for this purpose are greatly appreciated.... ;)
