The Welsh Poetry Competition 20 1 2 o rganisers have announced the winners of the 6 th international competition and the overall winner was Sally Spedding for h er poem She wears green .
The winning poem creates a mood and expresses emotion, it challenges and influences. She wears green: we all wear green. We recycle, save the planet, watch nature documentaries, fill the bird feeder every winter, yet we live in a nation where around 4 million scientific experiments are carried out on live animals annually, less than 3% of the population are vegetarian, and important wildlife habitat and green zones are destroyed with increasing regularity. This poem challenges us all. A prose poem, yes, but above all this is a very well written poem and a worthy winner. said John Evans, competition judge.
.
The winners were as follows:
1st Prize She wears green by Sally Spedding
2nd Prize Lambing Language by Glyn Edwards
3rd Prize Austerity by Morgan Rhys Powell
John also choose a nother seventeen poems for the specially commended section with winners from all over Wales and t he UK , as well as from F rance, Michigan , USA and Wellington , New Zealand , which once again highlights the fact that the Welsh Poetry Competition i s a truly international event . All winning poems can be viewed on the competition web site www.welshpoetry.co.uk
The overall standard was once again excellent and weve had poets enter from Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Greece, Italy, India, Pakistan, Thailand, China, USA , Australia and New Zealand .
Each year we go from strength to strength, last year w e publish ed an anthology of all the winning entries from the previous five years and in 2013 we shall be entering our seventh year! said Dave Lewis, competition organizer.

Hats off to the team at Melin Consultants in The Beacon building in Dafen, Llanelli.
Is this the best 'office garden' feature you've seen?
Constructed on a plinth, with loads of plants and the company name arranged in slate and pebbles, it is a work of art.
Well done to Jamie Best and his team at Melin.
Can anyone do better?

Pictured above - South Wales millionaire and entrepreneur giving the thumbs-up, with Sean Holley, Matt Barry and Euros, just after his fight.
Television executive Euros was fighting in a Semi-Pro MMA (mixed martial arts) bout in Carmarthen as part of the Celtic Carnage Welsh Power and Strength weekend.

Euros, commercial director with Welsh independent television producers Telesgop, happily labels himself a white-collar worker with no previous experience with MMA Mixed Martial Arts.
He had never set foot in a cage before Saturday night.
Euros did practice some martial arts in his teens.
The move to MMA started in January 2012, when he enrolled in the Chris Rees Academy .
Euros began learning Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu with the Gracie Barra Predator Team.
Chris Rees is the only instructor in Wales to hold a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu , with more than 20 years of Martial Arts experience behind him.
He also holds Black belts in Traditional jiu-jitsu, Shotokan karate and Aikido.
Chris quickly saw potential in Euros and gave him a reason to train.
Euros took it as a personal challenge to take on the Semi-Professional bout in the MMA fight.
Euros said yesterday:" What a battle! Still sore today. Dan Williams gave me a good fight! My first win in MMA, thanks to all the guys and especially Chris Rees. Thank you for all your messages."
