St Valentine's Day Surprise

By Ceri Shaw, 2012-02-14

Reproduced with kind permission from David Western's Lovespoon Blog

A couple of days ago I had a really nice Valentine's surprise when I received a copy of the luxuriously high-end magazine Atelier and its companion magazine Arcade. I had been email interviewed a couple of months ago about lovespoons and their eminent suitability as Valentine's gifts and had submitted a couple of photographs to journalist Shaily Bhusri, so I knew to expect something about the lovespoon in this month's edition.
However, the arrival of these gloriously lavish magazines was really very, very exciting! The magazines are gorgeous and it is a genuine thrill to see my spoons rubbing shoulders with glamourous Bollywood stars, haute couture, cutting-edge architecture and some of the most remarkable 'Valentine's Day red' footwear that I have ever encountered! For a guy who is accustomed to chipping away day-after-day in his little dust filled hidey-hole, appearing in a magazine directed primarily at India's jet set seems very surreal!!
But I am more than delighted for both the attention it brings me AND for the fact that someone has taken the time to realize the wonderful romance of the lovespoon tradition. This year I had sent out literally dozens of 'promo packs' to media outlets across North America trying to solicit some interest in lovespoons as a suitable subject for coverage at this 'most romantic time of the year'. From my neighbourhood community paper, to the New York Times, I canvassed everyone I could think of.
Alas, no-one showed even the faintest interest in the subject. The lovespoon, it seems, is no competition for annual tales of overpriced chocolates and flowers.

So that is why it is doubly gratifying for me, that thousands of miles from its home , on the other side of the globe, the lovespoon tradition has received this one moment of glittering celebrity!

My sincere thanks to Shaily Bhusri and Atelier Magazine for their kind permission to use their material in my blog!!

Rent to Lease, now for Freehold

By Byn (Bynbrynman)Tavarn Ty Elise, 2012-02-09

The English are Germanic (Angles; Saxons) in a partitioned France (Normandy; Aquitaine; Anjou; Plantagenet north of the Channel) ruled by Germans & Danes (House of Herzogtum Sachsen-Coburg Und Gotha, family name Wettin, & House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksberg, family name Battenberg), who today speak a modern international medium commonly referred to as 'English' but these days 'American' would be more apt.

The Welsh, together with their compatriots the Cornish, are Britons of the west, they may have lost the crown, orb & sceptre of this ancient land, but theirs is the final resting place of the pre Anglo-Saxon Brythonic language & culture of their island home.

Former rentpayers in the Franco-Germanic (e)state, just having taken over the lease of their semi-detached house from the absentee landlord who takes their money for redistribution amongst the rich acolytes of the south-east, leaving them to fend for themseves with hands tied to live on pittances called grants; whilst there are positive thinking visionaries, patriots who wish to take over the freehold of a detached home with hands untied to set themselves up with their families within the forseeable future, away from interfering neighbours and their lackeys, so that they can create a healthy & wealthy dynamic of their own far from the source of their present disease, no more starved of vitamins & protein and free to breathe the fresh air to fill the lungs and strengthen the heart. If Scotland thinks it can do it, the Scandinavian states have done it, and particularly the Slovenians who are doing it with two thirds the population of Cymru/Wales. Fe godwn ni eto; Cymru am Byth.

A Sheeps Tail

By Baarbaara Sheep, 2012-02-08

FREE Download "A Sheeps Tail"

Read Baarbaara's story about how she helped the Humans in their battle against a proposed "Monster Incinerator" in the beautiful South Wales Valleys.

She wrote the story to encourage children to get involved in the campaign which was already running through the various Valleys groups Uniting.

United Valleys Action Group campaigned tirelessly for over a year against the giant company Covanta, and eventually they pulled out, so Baarbaara's Tail actually comes true.

You can also download it FREE at Obooko.com

Hope you enjoy reading it.
