Reserve March 7, on your calendar for a very special Welsh event!
“On St David's Day, March 1, 1979 the people of Wales voted four to one against the establishment of a National Assembly. On September 18, 1997 the people of Wales voted narrowly in favour of the establishment of a National Assembly which gave Wales its first "Parliament" for six hundred years. The forthcoming year will probably see a referendum which, if won, will give the Assembly primary law making powers and could well see Wales on the road to even greater autonomy if not outright independence. This talk will consider the factors which led to this massive change in public opinion not only in Wales but in Scotland and the increasingly real possibility of a break up of the United Kingdom.”
Dr. Robert Tyler, visiting Fullbright Scholar from Wales, will speak on Wales' and Scotland's potential political future, 4:30 PM, Sunday March 7, at University of the Pacific, 3601 Pacific Avenue, in Stockton. Doors will open at 4:00 PM.
Dr. Tyler’s talk will begin “A Welsh Evening”, WASCC's (Welsh Amercian Society of Central CA) annual St. David’s Day/Welsh Evening event.
Dinner, catered by Bon Appetite and entertainment will follow Dr. Tyler’s talk at another UOP campus location. There is no admission charge to hear Dr. Tyler’s speak; there is a charge for the dinner and entertainment. Dr. Tyler will also attend the dinner and entertainment.
The event is sponsored by University of the Pacific, School of International Studies. Advance, paid reservations are required only for the dinner and entertainment.
