Aberglasney Gardens in the picturesque Tywi Valley in Carmarthenshire is delighted to be celebrating a new partnership with one of Wales most prominent food critics.
Along with his family, the food writer, broadcaster, and restaurateur Simon Wright will take over the franchise for Aberglasneys caf on St Davids Day, March 1, 2013.
Simon and his team, including wife Maryann and son Joel, will bring food of the quality you dont always expect at museums and gardens to this historic site.
Using fresh local ingredients picked from the gardens where possible the menu will change daily according to the seasons and the weather, but you can expect to sample innovative sandwiches and salads, soups, stews and homemade cakes all complimented with Welsh Coffee, Suki Teas and homemade lemonade.
Simons impressive CV reinforces the offering he brings to Aberglasney.
He and Maryann have been running restaurants in South West Wales for more than 20 years.
They were previously partners in the award winning Y Polyn at Nantgaredig and recently set up Wright's Independent Food Emporium.
Simon is a former Editor of the AA Restaurant Guide and was the restaurant consultant on Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
He is a writer and broadcaster whose programmes have included "The Wright Taste" and "Wales on the Menu" for BBC Wales as well as programmes for Channel 4.
He is delighted to now be entering into a partnership with Aberglasney: Its a very special place and as a setting in which to serve people food it has few peers. We'll be offering food that has the same spirit as everything else we've done. The emphasis will be on quality, simple things done very well. One of the most enchanting things about the gardens is that it will give us the chance to work with the talented gardeners on produce that can be used in our dishes."
Aberglasneys head gardener Joseph Atkin says hes very much looking forward to working closely with the Wrights.
The Lower Walled Garden is filled year round almost with an abundance of fantastic vegetables, fruit and herbs. Its mouth-watering to see so many different varieties, many of which are quite rare and Im delighted that everything from purple podded peas to orange chard and edible flowers are going to be put to good use.
I cant wait to see Simons team in the gardens picking vegetables first thing in the morning, knowing that by lunch time Ill be able to sit in the caf enjoying all sorts of great dishes made with Aberglasney produce.
Aberglasney also has bee hives and the honey produced will be used at the caf, as will, during the summer months, oranges grown in the famous Cloister Garden and tropical fruit from the Ninfarium indoor garden.
Diners can choose to eat inside or al fresco in Aberglasneys beautiful Pool Garden surrounded by trees and flowers with stunning views through to the woodlands and walled gardens making a table at Wrights in the Garden one of the best in Wales.
Aberglasney Members will be able to make full use of the Caf, by visiting as often as they wish without any admission charge, under the normal terms of their membership.

Hes featured in a James Bond film and is known as a top grade martial arts expert.
Now Bridgend-born actor Dave Wong is passing on his skills at a new martial arts academy which has just opened in Talbot Green.
The Sen Martial Arts Academy is Dave Wongs bid to educate future generations in discipline, exercise and self defence.
Ive been very fortunate in life to pick up the key skills needed to fulfil a desire to perform to the highest standard, said 52-year-old Wong.
Ive been able to combine my martial arts skills with my acting abilities and this new gym is my way of giving something back to the community to help others follow in my footsteps.
Wong was billed as Shangai art collector in Skyfall, the record-breaking latest film in the James Bond catalogue.
Any role, no matter how small, is a privilege when you are taking part in a James Bond movie. It is THE biggest movie franchise out there and I thoroughly enjoyed my time on set.
Wongs movie CV is building nicely. He appeared in Out for a Kill and has a part in the soon-to-be-released French film Turf.
I have worked in film and TV since 1995. I have had the privilege of working on some really great movies, rubbing shoulders with some well known actors.
I've also produced some short films. Although I'm based in Wales, I tend to find more work out of Wales. You have to travel for the parts.
I tend not work in theatre, but I would love to do theatre every now again, just to mix it up a bit.
Wong specialises in stage and screen fight training. He hopes to pass these skills on to students at the Sen Martial Arts Academy.
He added: Hopefully, the skills that they learn with me will help students secure auditions in the world of TV and film acting.
I have always had a burning desire to perform at the highest standard and everything at the Sen Martial Arts Academy is dedicated to helping others reach similar heights.
The academy is equipped with the best martial arts training gear. Meanwhile, I have the vision and a passion to teach martial arts to the highest standard.
I have a wealth of experience to share and students will not only learn self defence skills but also life skills which will aid them in building a brighter future.

It’s the Triple Crown of comedy!

By Robert Lloyd, 2013-02-05

In need of cheer after the doom and gloom of the rugby? Then, look no further than the Triple Crown of comedy in Wales.
Three of the most celebrated comedians in Wales will be taking to the field of play in Ystradgynlais later this month.
The occasion sees the reprise of the famous The Dragon Has Three Tongues show, featuring Phil Evans (above), Daniel Glyn and Gary Slaymaker.
There be plenty of tongue-in-cheek points scoring a few conversions to the best in Welsh comedy, promises Ammanford-based Phil Evans.
The acclaimed show has played in all four corners of Wales and was taken on its first foreign tour last year when it formed the cornerstone of St Davids Day celebrations in Toronto in Canada.
Evans said: Welsh audiences will be familiar with what the show is all about, but we havent given it an airing in Wales for a few months now, so it will be great fun to take it to heartland territory in Ystradgynlais.
The Dragon Has Three Tongues will be staged at The Welfare in Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais, on Friday, February 22.
Wynne Roberts, of The Welfare (an independent charity theatre) said he was looking forward to the three comedians visiting Ystradgynlais.
Were not that well known as a comedy venue, but we did have Elis James (the up-and-coming Carmarthen comedian) here recently and he was well received, so we are hoping for a big Ystradgynlais welcome for Messrs Evans, Glyn and Slaymaker, said Roberts.
The trio are familiar faces and voices in Wales and appear regularly on S4C (Welsh language TV) as well as BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru.
Two years ago they joined forces to create The Dragon Has Three Tongues to provide an innovative showcase for their different talents.
Its funny and entertaining, with the accent firmly on matters Welsh, said Evans, the man who puts the cwtsh into comedy in Wales.
Its the comic equivalent of buy-one-get-one-free, except, of course that you get three comedians for the price of one, laughed Evans.

Daniel Glyn has been working in comedy since 1991. He jokes that one day he'll get it right!
As well as performing stand-up in Welsh and English, he has also written gags for Stuart Cable, Goldie Lookin' Chain, Jonathan Davies, Bryn Terfel, Lesley Phillips, Dewi Pws Morris and Rhys Ifans.

Gary Slaymaker is a native of Cwmann, near Lampeter, but now lives in Cardiff.
After a varied career working in a video shop, comics shop, a bar and as a labourer, his big break came in the late 1980s when he presented a late-night show on BBC Radio Cymru.
He later moved over to television, presenting his film-review show Slaymaker.
In 2005 he published his first Welsh language novel 'Y Sach Winwns' (The Onion Bag).

The Dragon Has Three Tongues will be staged at The Welfare in Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais, on Friday, February 22., starting at 8pm.

Cr Meibion Llanelli members have been busy rehearsing a new battle hymn for the British and Irish Lions rugby team.
And the new version of Men of Harlech has received the thumbs-up from two Lions legends, Delme Thomas and Phil Bennett.
The rugby heroes were on hand to hear the unofficial premiere of Lions To A Man, a poem set to the Men of Harlech tune.
Im a big fan of Cr Meibion Llanelli and I love listening to them, said the hero of Llanellis famous 9-3 win over New Zealand Delme Thomas. This new song is very stirring and I am sure people will love it.
The plan is to record Lions To A Man and video the recording session. There will be a full edit of the film for You Tube on the internet and the tune will be available for downloads on the iTunes and Android platforms on computers and mobile devices.
Its a very exciting project, said Cr Meibion Llanelli musical director Eifion Thomas. The boys of the choir have had great fun rehearsing Lions To A Man and are looking forward to the full recording session.
The words to Lions To A Man come from a poem written by David Ollie Ward, a native of Llantrisant now living in Mount Pleasant, Swansea.
Mr Ward, who served in the Lifeguards Household Cavalry for 12 years, said: I set it out as a poem, originally, basically as me giving a team talk to the Lions before they take the field of play.
Then I realised the words would fit as lyrics to the tune of Men of Harlech. Ive had great help from Peter Williams and his team at Swansea University and I was put in touch with Eifion Thomas, who has done a marvellous job on the musical arrangement.
As a serviceman Ive ridden for The Queen at official ceremonies and done the armoured side of cavalry work with tours of places like Northern Ireland and Cyprus.
Im probably more nervous and excited today, though, at hearing my words sung by a great choir like Cr Meibion Llanelli.
Mr Ward, 54, added: To my mind the anthem God Save The Queen should be kept as a salute to the monarch. The idea of Lions To A Man is that it is a stirring battle hymn to prepare the Lions for the contest on the field of play.
The plan is to donate proceeds from the sale of downloads of the tune to a number of British and Irish charities.

The St Elli Shopping Centre, the trading hub of Llanelli, is moving into the fast lane.
The centre is to have an innovative mini car showroom featuring cars from Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea.
Its something of a novelty when it comes to what we offer as a shopping centre, said centre manager Andrew Stephens.
Its very different to our more customary shop operations, but Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea were keen on the unit and we think it brings something new and fresh to the shopping centre.
What is interesting is that there are companies out there willing and prepared to invest in Llanelli.
You get all this doom and gloom talk on occasions about Llanelli town centre as a shopping destination, but the High Street and the shopping experience is changing all the time.
Its good news for the St Elli Shopping Centre that Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea are coming to town and they are likely to be followed very quickly by another new tenant at our shopping centre.
Negotiations are nearly complete with a quality brand name on another unit in St Elli, so the new year is starting off with a bang with some good news for Llanelli as a shopping centre.
Mr Stephens said the Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea unit would take the place of the old Go Mobile shop.
He added: We have held motor shows and hosted several dealerships in the St Elli Shopping Centre and the exercise has always been a very successful one, attracting a lot of interest.
This is the first time for us to have a car dealership in an unit. Its very different. But we are looking forward to it being very successful.
Gareth Lloyd, General Sales Manager for Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea, said he was delighted to be bringing the car marquee to the heart of Llanelli.
We have exhibited our cars at special one-off displays in the St Elli Shopping Centre before and the feedback from the public and the interest in our vehicles has been very good.
We are very excited at the opening of the new shop unit at St Elli.
Were going to have a large flat screen television mounted at the rear of the shop, connected wirelessly to iPads so customers can call in and configure their own cars to their own taste.
We aim to be open within the first quarter of this year.
The two cars we will most likely feature first are the Polo and the up!
The up! won World car of the year in 2012 and has sold in huge volumes since its launch.
The Sinclair Volkswagen Swansea unit at St Elli is likely to be staffed 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday and will cater for retail and Motability customers.

St. Elli Shopping Centre is at the heart of Llanelli. Since its opening in 1997, it has become a defining landmark in the town. It offers an entirely enclosed shopping environment with nearly20 stores all under its distinctive glass pyramid ceiling.
Within the centre, you will find an exciting cocktail of shopping outlets in a sparkling and convenient mall, served with ample parking and excellent service from friendly store staff.
Book-ended by a Asda supermarket and a popular and traditional market-hall, St. Elli Shopping Centre offers a wide range of shopping outlets to choose from with children's entertainment a permanent fixture and centre aisle attractions providing regular features.

Political correctness, fears of mass corruption in the Establishment, the gap between rich and poor, sports role models, the Olympic legacy and multiculturalism.

These were among the topics debated in the annual Llanelli Rotary Club Youth Speaks competition held at Llanelli Town Hall.
The quality of the arguments presented was outstanding and the children taking part reflected great credit on their schools and families, said the chairman of the judging panel Lt Colonel David Mathias. All the competitors were a great credit to their families and their schools.
The competition saw the teams from St John Lloyd and Bryngwyn take the senior and intermediate prizes to progress to the next round of the Rotary competition a zone area final.
The Youth Speaks competition is organised on a national basis and it is possible for the teams to win through to a UK final.
Lt Col Mathias said: The standard in the competition was exceptionally high and the competitors made the judging task a very difficult one, so much so that there was a tie for one of the prizes.
Llanelli Rotary Club president Alan Owen explained that the Youth Speaks event offered an opportunity for Llanelli pupils to gain experience of speaking on a public platform.
He said: It allows young people to form ideas on significant subjects and learn high standards of expression, presentation and appearance. It also gives pupils the experience of accepting impartial assessments and constructive criticism.
The competition was run to a national Rotary format which included a question from the floor. The main speaker for each team faced the daunting task of fielding an unrehearsed question from Rotarian Past President JC Williams MBE.
Llanelli Rotary President Mr Owen added: The youngsters coped admirably with the questions, not an easy task in front of a large audience at the Town Hall.
