St Michaels private and independent school is expanding to build a new boarding house wing.
And the architect in charge of the project is former pupil Philip Lewis, managing director of the Lewis Partnership Ltd, of Llanelli.
The first stage of the plan is for a 40-bed boarding house and new kitchen and dining facilities for the school.
Mr Lewis said: I have fond memories of being a pupil at St Mikes, so being able to play a significant role in its future development is a very proud moment for me.
The team here at the Lewis Partnership has been working very closely with St Michaels to produce a design which passes that test with the leadership team at the school.
It is great to see the builders moving in on site and work progressing at some speed.

Alison Brant's Holiday Heaven and Hell

By Robert Lloyd, 2012-07-24

Alison Brant is a finance support assistant with QualitySolicitors Redkite, the biggest law firm in West Wales, who have seven offices in the area, including one in Carmarthen. Here is her Holiday Heaven and Hell (published in the South Wales Evening Post today).

My worst holiday
My worst holiday was back in the dim and distant past (thank goodness!). I hadnt been married long and my (now ex) husbands family always went to Barmouth in Mid Wales for their holidays because that was where all the Brummies from Birmingham went to roost for their summer break.
At that time we lived in Burnley so we had travelled down to Walsall on the Friday night ready to set off all together the next morning. (My husbands sister, brother-in-law and two children always came with us, too) Overnight our car was broken into and our suitcases were stolen.
Once in Barmouth, true to form, the weather was atrocious all week and to cap it all my ex picked up a stomach bug. So there I was, trapped in a small static caravan for a whole week with five other adults, two small children and nothing to wear except the clothes I had travelled down in and a couple of things borrowed from my sister-in-law!
We did have subsequent holidays in Barmouth, which were much happier. But the motto of this experience was Never take all your best clothes on holiday.
My best holiday
Luckily, time moved on. The caravan, the husband and Barmouth holidays are all things of the past. I am now living with my childhood sweetheart (met again after 40 years) and life has improved no end.
My best holiday (and one which I never dreamt I would ever have) was a Great Rail Journey trip across America from New York to San Francisco.
It took three weeks altogether, with short hotel stops along the way at some of the major cities such as Chicago, Denver, Flagstaff and Los Angeles.
We also had two overnight journeys on the train.
We saw a lot of the major sights including the Empire State Building, Central Park, Washington DC, Monument Valley and the Grand Canyon.
It was a truly amazing experience
And the motto of this experience was Everything comes to he (or she) who waits.
Most memorable holiday moment
This was in the middle of the American trip. We spent three days in Denver in a hotel that used to be a Playboy Club and it had a roof-top swimming pool.
My most memorable moment of the whole trip was swimming in the pool in the early morning, watching the sunrise and seeing the Rocky Mountains in the distance and thinking how lucky I was to be there.

The event is being organised by Angela Killa, senior assistant solicitor at Carmarthen. It will raise funds for Womens Aid, Ty Hapus and Brain Tumour UK.
Angela said: We are in the early stages of organising the ride, but the intention is to raise money for three very worthwhile charities.
In addition, in the build-up to the event, we are hoping to organise a competition for local schoolchildren to get involved with designing a poster, a logo and a webpage for the ride.
The ride will be open to the public and wed like as many people as possible to get involved.
As a local firm of solicitors, we recognise the importance of supporting good causes, so, hopefully, we can do a lot of good with the money raised.
The bike ride route and the distance inolved is still being worked out, but we are looking for as many people as possible to express an interest in taking part in the ride at an early stage. In partcular, we are looking for support from local businesses, sports teams and organisations.

Brain Tumour UK
This is a national charity providing support to families affected by the dignosis of a brain tumour.
The schools competition:

Years 4-6 of all Carmarthenshire primary scools will be invited to design a logo for the event.
Carmarthenshire comprehensive schools will be invited to design a webpage for the event. This will be inserted into the Hains and Lewis company website.
The prizes for the schools competition will be announced later.

Hains and Lewis was established in May 1996 following the merger of the practices of Victoria Hains and Daniel Lewis. Prior to the merger Vicki had practised as a sole practitioner since 1991 and Dan since 1994. Previously, both had been partners in solicitors firms, in Pembrokeshire and in London, respectively.
Over the years the firm has grown and in 2006 merged with another local firm Jones & Jones. In 2008 the firm incorporated as Hains & Lewis Ltd and Christopher Taylor, a senior solicitor in the Family Department joined Vicki and Dan as directors.
From our offices we provide legal services to individuals and businesses wherever required but principally in South West Wales. Hains and Lewis offices are in Haverfordwest, Carmarthen and Narberth and home visits are by arrangement

About Kevin Green
Kevin shares his own business experiences with a hands on approach. The media has often referred to Kevin as being "Exactly what it says on the tin" meaning he does practise what he preaches. There are no 'up sells' to futher trainings, the product that delegates choose is 90 day business coaching from Kevin and his team subject to Kevin's availability.
Kevin Green is a self-made multi-millionaire and social entrepreneur. He is one of the UKs largest residential property landlords and a multi-business owner.
The 48-year-old dyslexic, who featured on Channel 4's Secret Millionaire, was homeless in 1984. Today his property portfolio runs into the hundreds.
He has a wealth of experience in the property investment world and heads a number of successful companies and other non property related businesses.
He is also involved in coaching under his own brand of Kevin Green Wealth Coach
Before making his fortune in business he was a successful dairy farmer. In 1999 he won a Nuffield Scholarship in agriculture and studied the attitudes and personalities of high achievers. He also interviewed the likes of Bill Gates and Sir Richard Branson. During the study he learned the simple principles for success and determined the common elements that contributed towards that success. He bought his first property soon after, using credit cards to bridge finance the deposit of a buy-to-let mortgage. After quickly renovating it and selling it at a profit, he bought a second. The rest is history.
Over the last decade Kevin continues to thrive in business and chooses to give back to the next generation of entrepreneurs by sharing his knowledge and wisdom. His speciality talks include motivation, empowerment and coaching. He enjoys giving businesses and organisations an insight into what it takes to become successful in the business world.
Kevin loves to educate, motivate and inspire others and his passion and enthusiasm is quite infectious. His down to earth approach is often referred to by those who know him as exactly what it says on the tin. he is one of the few educters in the U.K. who when searched actually has an extensive wealth of business experience, unlike some others in this industry who tend to make false claims to their wealth.
These qualities have catapulted him into worldwide demand as a speaker at conferences, dinners and business seminars.
Kevin has travelled throughout the UK, Asia, Australia and New Zealand in the past year and has spoken on the same stage as Sir Richard Branson.
Some of his clients include British Airways, Yorkshire Bank , Success Resources, Dymano Government projects, Prince's Trust, UK Government Techniums, New Zealand Wealth Mentor, Australia Ideas To Empires, Singapore/Malaysia Tigrent Learning, Rich Dad education, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Get Motivated and Triumphant Events.
Kevin is a regular commentator on property and business within a cross-section of UK and international media resources.
The dad-of-three has personally contributed more than 300,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. He is also a Welsh Goverment Dynamo role model coach and a member of The Professional Speaking Association.
