In fact it was Ordinance Survey who objected on the grounds that changing the name could cause for instance a delay in rescue services attending an accident. As far as I can see if someone called in an incident and said that according to their map they were on Carnedd Uchaf surely aforementioned service would know they were on Carnedd Gwenllian and vice versa. So perhaps there was another reason for refusal-there I go again with my conspiricy theory.

One might wonder if they were afraid the ghost of Edward I of England would haunt them... or that thinking too much of the tragedy that was Gwenllian's life might distract climbers, so they might miss a step and fall... or perhaps that so renaming the peak would give permission to the Tylwyth Teg to have a bit of fun with passersby... whatever... it seems that someone was afraid of something here, as renaming the mountain could hardly be that difficult otherwise

This plaque was placed on a rock outside Hafan Eryri, the new visitor centre on the summit of Yr Wyddfa. It was originally intended to be inside the building, not sure if it will be moved when the centre is completed. The Gwenllian Society wanted to rename a mountain near the one named for her father,Carnedd Llywelyn.Sadly it was decided not to change the name Carnedd Uchaf to Carnedd Gwenllian because of fears for climbers and ramblers safety (?)
