Maes Gwyrdd - Green Field at Welsh National Eisteddfod 2012

Maes Gwyrdd - Green Field at Welsh National Eisteddfod 2012

Saturday August 4 2012, 11:00 AM
@ Llandow, Glamorgan, Cymru, Llandow Industrial Estate,...
Attendees:  @Nathan Lewis Williams

Maes Gwyrdd will be a  3 acre area of the main "Maes" at the National Eisteddfod in 2012 at Llandow, Glamorgan, the area of Wales where Druid revivalist Iolo Morgannwg conceived the Bardic Gorsedd which has become such an integral part of the nation's national festival. A lover of nature, a passionate advocate of human rights (he set up the first ever "Fair Trade" shop in Cowbridge, the nearest town) and, of course a great poetic scholar, stonemason and musician to boot. We have Arts Council Wales funding for a series of sculptures inspired by Druidic and Celtic themes, and are planning a stone memorial to Iolo. Also a stage to celebrate Welsh folk music (the "Triban" stage, named after an ancient poetical and musical form local to Glamorgan), green crafts, workshops, a storytelling tent and a talks tent called the "e-Coleg" (Welsh for ecology) where we will discuss subjects ranging from the history of Wales and its ecology to its future, alternative / renewable energy, permaculture and sustainability. Maes Gwyrdd is seeking content (in Cymraeg!) and lecturers (not necessarily academics, but interesting talks with Powerpoint or slides) - also "green" sponsors of who may wish to advertise in our programme and stallholders.
