This is basically my FB post from 2 minutes ago:5 hours and 2 plates later, Macsen is out of surgery, waking up and has the breathing tube out! The doc just called and he did fine--the xray looks perfect. They are very pleased. No extra complications (all the horrible things they have to warn you about when you sign the forms and then worry about until you finally hear!) and he might come home as early as Sunday. Still a long haul, but the main danger is over and it is all about recovery. I can see him at 9 a.m. tomorrow--THEN I will feel better!Thanks for thinking about us today.I went out and bought 2 cushy crate mats for him.Mona

Thanks for the good wishes--I know they will help Macsen and for sure they help me.

I just got back from seeing him this morning--he was resting comfortably (lots of drugs) and had had a chest xray (which was fine) and they arewaiting on his lab results. I met the surgeon. He will have the CT scan around noon and they will call me with the results. He will remain under anesthetic from then until he is out of surgery--which could be many hours, as they may not get to him right away and the surgery can take several hours. That is the time I am most worried about, but, of course, they will have anesthesiologists monitoring him the whole time and he is healthy. Also, his bladder is filling, so he is making urine. I'll keep you posted.

I am getting a crate ready for him. We have a wire one that will be good because it has a nice wide door, not like the plastic ones, and also he will be able to see out more. I need to measure it an go buy a crate pad, as it doesn't have one--I mostly used it to transport rescue dogs and just used towels or blankets. Also, I need to find the water dish that hooks on the crate. I am rearranging the living room furniture so I can put a table in front of the windows to set the crate on so I can get to him easily and he can get some sunlight and the other dogs won't bother him.

I probably won't get to see him again until tomorrow, as the doc said they don't like visitors when he is first coming out of anesthesia. She seemed to be pretty positive, though.

Spent this evening at the veterinary hospital. My husband stepped on our dachshund, Macsen (in photo), and his pelvis is broken (Macsen's, not my husband's--I haven't figured out what I should break on him!). He will get a CT scan and tomorrow and hopefully they will be able to fit him on the surgery schedule for tomorrow. The prognosis is good, but it will be weeks before he is off crate rest and months before he is back to all normal activities. Meantime, please keep him in your thoughts until he is out of surgery. Thanks!
