When Angelsey Became an Island

By mona everett, 2011-03-02

New research has revealed Anglesey was still connected to the mainland less than 6,000 years ago.

Hunter-gatherer humans were giving way to settled farmers when the Menai Strait became a permanent fixture between 5,800 and 4,600 years ago.

Mike Roberts, a mature student from Amlwch, discovered this while completing a PhD at Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences.

Read about his discoveries and this interesting history here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/northwestwales/hi/front_page/newsid_9410000/9410706.stm

A drilling rig located in the Menai Strait faciltated the research

I've received lovely greetings from these folks over the past few years. Maybe some of you are in the area or have plans to be sometime. They seem a very friendly group and I am sure they would welcome visitors.

NEW Crossword Puzzle--Welsh Animals

By mona everett, 2011-02-25

Ok, Friends, I've decided to give this whole Crossword Puzzle thing a whirl. Same as Swansea Jack's--use the English alphabet, not the Welsh one (i.e. Ll, ch, dd, etc., go in TWO different squares, even though these are each one letter in Welsh). I'll put the solution up in a couple of days. Pob Lwc!

A pig from north Wales is set to join a dog display team.

Ten-month old Louie from Porthmadog, Gwynedd, spends his days to run a canine agility course - and playing fetch.

He is now so good at running like a hound, owner Sue Williams hopes to make him part of the Cheshire Dog Display Team.
