A Winter's Tale (with apologies to G.C.)
Dec. 11 It begins....
It was raining, now there is slush everywhere and it's snowing--we expect 8-12 inches of snow as it will snow for about 24 hours non-stop. Then it will be 9 below (F) on Monday and we'll be treated to high winds! Red Wing (Minnesota--one state to the west, where most of my in-laws live) already has about 10-12 inches and they are having the winds.
They just closed I-90 (major freeway/dual carriageway) from Tomah to Hudson (a bit east and north of here--where the storm is coming from) and are telling everyone here (statewide) to stay home tomorrow. The city snow plow just went down our street for the first time, too.
Our regular snowplow guy went back to work (he was retired) so I called someone new--sure hope he is reliable! We have to have the sidewalks cleared within 24 hours of the last snowflake falling or face a stiff fine.
Bah humbug!
10:30 pm--Now we're under a blizzard warning. Visibility is awful (I peeked out front) and I am seriously worried about the winds and heavy snow on our trees and wires! Our bushes are already flat on the ground.
On the plus side--the dog poop in the backyard is snow-covered! Or else it blew over the fence and is decorating the neighbors' yard!
Saturday, Dec. 11, 7:45 Update It gets worse:
Sunday -- Colder...windy.Blowing snowthrough the day. Total snow accumulation 10 to 17 inches. Highs around 18F.North winds20 to 30 mph.Sunday Night-- Bitterly cold. Lows around 4 below F. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph.Wind chillreadings 19 below F to 29 below zero F.
Oh, goody....
There may not be enough Penderyn in Madison....
Or Wales! Oh to be stranded in Cardiff now that winters here ( or Llanberis )
We hit up the local deli on the way home this afternoon--in case we lose power. Of course, we'd freeze to death before we'd starve, so I guess we just like deli food!
I have the Penderyn and DVD standing by. Also have to write Christmas cards.
Why can't I ever get stuck someplace like Hawaii???
I hear you Mona.....we're stocking up the fridge with emergency supplies of Natural Ice in case we are faced with a similar situation Of course if anyone IS snowbound this Christmas the best thing to do is to get yourself a bottle of Penderyn and a copy of the Night Of The Living Bards DVD That will help kill a couple of hours
