As a child, I saw a photo of my grandfather, William John Harris, on the deck of a ship sailing from Britain to NY, standing with a very large man (bigger than Pop, who was 6' tall) with the biggest hands I have ever seen--huge! Mam told me that was Tommy Farr, and that he and Pop were friends. My grandparents had several fighters as friends, in New York, including Jackie Jones, who, with his wife, was at my Pop & Gu's house many times, so this made sense. Too bad he didn't get to be a singer as he wanted.
Yes it is - Tommy actually wanted to become a singer, but there were few opportunities around when he was a boy, and so ended up fighting in order to support his family out of necessity. His mother died when he was very young, andhis father was bedridden throughout Tommy's youth. Quite an inspirational man. As far as I can remember, he was fightingfrom about the age of 12.
Sounds a bit creaky at first but warms up after a bit ! - also did a few other songs, but can't remember the titles.
