For years I have resisted shooting an image of the iconic Telford's Bridge from the classic lay-by viewpoint. It has been shot and photographed by thousands if not millions of tourists over the generations so I just refused to do it, just to be bloody minded more than anything else
I have been asked by numerous gallery visitors for my version of this stereotyped view (it IS spectacular by the way, just overshot!). I even had a mum and daughter in yesterday asking for the same thing, so who would believe that on my way back from the physiotherapist last night, and actually feel motivated to shoot the scene! As I drove past the lay-by I witnessed an amazing moonlight bouncing off snowcapped hills and a flat calm Menai Strait. I didn't have my camera with me so I had to drive home, grab the kit and race out again.

It was freezing cold waiting in that lay-by and it felt very strange shooting my 'forbidden image' ! Anyway I took about three frames using slightly different compositions and this one is my favourite, but I'm not saying why! Actually, whilst I was there, and I was only permitted a short time because tea was going cold at home, I decided on some future viewpoints which could prove very interesting. At the moment I have no plans to do daytime views, the moonlight created the surreality which made the difference for me, it became a Glyn Davies landscape, it fitted my style and I was happy about that. I will be checking out other full moons as well as I may include the moon itself in a shot. I have seen some truly horrendous illustrations where enormous fake moons have been dropped in afterwards, the height of crass imaging in my opinion. Like false breasts, I am not interested in size, I am interested in the beauty of what actually exists
Funny how moments just happen in life and why we must never say never !
This image will be released as a new Limited Edition of just 10 x A1 and 20 x A2 prints.
