From a number of places. The Maddocks family were from Llanarthney, here in Carmarthenshire. There are lists available of people who converted and went to America. In those days, families were really big and if you had several older brothers who were likely to get the family farm before you, then I suppose you'd think that America would offer a good opportunity. Anyway, they went forth and multiplied like nobody's business!
A great many migrated from Merthyr Tydfil to Utah I believe?

This photo is of an American cousin, David James Maddocks, of Church Farm Dairy, Salt Lake City, Utah. It's not a very good picture because I had to take a photo of it on my phone when a relative called last week and showed it to me. Church Farm is/was part of the Mormon church, to which a number of my American relatives belong.
