'Iberia' by Bruce Lader - 2010 Left Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition Winner

Poetry

Within the dark fortress

of your immemorial waters

are the sands of a moon to be born.

Mediterranean of no tides, you hold

the vast audience of stars in a bullfight arena.

At night, on the shore, the ripples

come lapsing arabesques

in your Alhambra of shadows.

For eons encamped in caves of your gut

eels have thrummed guitar, wailed

as gypsy fires dance duende from earth

like poppies of blood

flaming Andalusian mountains.

And there, on the distant Castilian mesa,

your armored attacker of windmills

astride his dauntless horse

dreams adventure in despair.

Raindrop Poem by James Sinclair

West Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition 2016

Love

like a rain drop

rests

on

a water glazed leaf

...

alive

vibrant green

clear and

clean

...

softly

weighs it down

serene

...

and it falls

...

and falls

...

falls

...

and falls

...

...

into a

a soft resonance

that enchants

...

and ripples infinitely

into the silent sonority

of the

now.

I Shed the Words by James Sinclair

West Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition 2016

I shed the words

of an illusive coat

the bones are poems that

the letters wrote

...

the chimerical mind

unseen unfound

like cryptic air hovering

above the ground

...

my skull a shell

amidst footprint graves

permeated by magnificent

movement of form

dissolved into the vast

echoes of eternal waves

safely within the wet womb

of the storm.

Madness Presents Itself by James Sinclair

West Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition 2016

Madness presents itself in the dark arroyo

soft screams pull themselves through the

rhythmic channel of sands

cool wilderness comfort

embraces remote silence

as luminous visions of your smile

secretly resurrect into the hills

beyond the serenity of time

and you gently squeeze my hand

and whisper love into the quiet wind of bliss

as our sun slowly rises into the high heavens

of rest.

Our Love by James Sinclair

West Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition 2016

Umbrella Poem

...

Like an umbrella

our love

softly opens

synchronized

with the delicate rain

...

we saunter through

the tunneled street

as old stones repress

beneath our feet

again and again

...

fresh crisp morning air

surrounds the subdued sounds

as the percussion slows

into the silence of the day

...

and sunlight appears

through the glisten of time

as our love safely folds

away.

Like Snowflakes by James Sinclair

West Coast Eisteddfod Online Poetry Competition 2016

Snowflake Poem

...

Like snowflakes

into a labyrinth

of white

thoughts

fall……………

my soul beneath

the blanket

upon

all is one

all is all

and everything

that I never knew

is gone

...

sunlight shines like

diamonds in the snow

the sound of the now

begins to flow

after an arroyo forms for

the memories to go

no longer frozen

the past is a pawn

and everything

that I never had

is gone

...

the starry night

diamond patterns high

stars disappear

into dawn

from the

black silken sky

...

cloaked by the now

as it softly unfolds

my giant shadow

that leads me

on

and everything

that I never was

is gone.
