I wrote this song back in the 1980's, but I still regard it as one of the best things I've done creatively speaking. It is taken from an unfinished musical I was writing about the artist Vincent Van Gough. I entered the musical in the national Vivian Ellis Prize for new musicals. The judges included Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice amongst other famous names from musical theatre - I was shortlisted, and was invited to a private workshop and lunch with Andrew Lloyd Webber and some other famous musical writers and producers at the Barbican in London. This song is sung in the musical by Vincent, in his room at the asylum. - the person singing the song in this recording was a friend of mine, a man with a most amazing voice, called Martin Lewis
