I am stunned, perhaps the US should have remained a colony? ;-)How do the likes of Madonna get away with it?I know, the US should join the EU, there we are - problem solved..Any more issues I and sort out for you 'yanks'? Tell Obama there is a Welsh wizard who can solve international crises with the stroke of a pen.

Evan- sadly it is easier for someone of Middle Eastern decent to get citizenship than us "yanks".We have to either marry a citizen, or come in with at least 250,000 P and have "special skills". There is a point system. With three college degrees - I am 5 points short of what I need.Ireland is easier to get into but we have to either prove direct decent in the last two generations and/or have enough points. This has infurated many people for years as "yanks" share language and culture- but the huge influx of people from the Middle East do not. The woman I talked with from the Irish Embassy was not pleased over the situation. I speak Gaelic and I'm learning Cymbre yet, I have to jump through hoops because the US is not an EU country. It's not impossible to get Isles citizenship but they make it very difficult on us.

No it would not help with that. You would still have to try to obtain Visa ect. And use the land for "holiday" flat. :.(Believe it or not the new issue isn't with UK or Ireland but with the EU immagration laws.

I know someone who owns a Grade II listed 'Historic Park and Garden".

They are considering selling plots to Welsh and Irish people only, this is because the ancient Hall was originally built by an Irish man of note back in the 1100s, subsequent owners included Welsh dignitaries who housed poets, entertained Oliver Cromwell and hid Charles I who lost his head later on.

The idea is that the developers would be thwarted, this parcel of land used to have planning permission so one day it might be resurrected.

Once registered with the UK Land Registry the land would be yours and yoiur heirs forever, you could plant a Welsh oak tree, sit under it and watch the sun go down, perhaps be buried there eventually.
