Of Boxing, Battles and Boks

By Ian Price2, 2008-11-09
The Boks sprung onto the Millennium Stadium turf with grace and agility. Somewhere between this entrance and no side some Svengali in the crowd convinced them that they were in fact hippopotami on a mission to move around like the Grand Hotel in the 1923 Tokyo earthquake. Fluidity evaporated faster than molasses in the Arctic. They were in luck however as the Welsh side suddenly took an interest in Tai Chi and the kind of altruism not seen since Christ took on the sins of man. The inescapable truth of it all was that the Boks were bad but Wales were worse. Wales have now been beaten 4 times in one year by the same side. Sad sad days indeed! In New York mixing it of another sort took place in Madison Square Gardens. Joe Calzaghe and Ray Jones Jnr stood close enough to each other to dispute whose air was being stolen from who. In a brutal and uncompromising encounter Calzaghe took an unhealthy interest in the stitch design of the canvass he stood upon. So impressed was Joe that he had to pass on it's intricacies to Jones in the form a signed pattern just below the latter's left eye. Jones, it is now understood, has employed a seamstress to ensure the design remains forever on his boat race. After 12 rounds Calzaghe retained his title and remains unbeaten after 46 fights.

Americymru members Gareth Evans and Andy Edwards and a team of cyclists are riding across the continental US from southern California to the east coast of Florida to raise money for the Children's Hospital for Wales. They're ramping up fundraising and need all the help they can get: donations, places to stay on the way, people to put on fundraisers in the towns they'll be passing through - pub night, charity bar-b-cue, rugby match, battle of the bands, whatever you can think of! Their blog is here and has their route posted and more information on all this:http://walescoast2coastusa.blogspot.com/and the first entry reads:

We're a team of cyclists from the United Kingdom who will be cycling across the United States in March 2009, from the Pacific coast at Santa Monica, California, to the eastern Florida coast at St Augustine, to raise money for the Children's Children's Hospital of Wales , in March 2009.

This is the first and currently only children's hospital in Wales. All funds raised through this cross-continental challenge will be donated to the Noah's Ark Appeal , which was created to raise funds to make the Children's Hospital a reality, to provide a hospital dedicated to the care of children and the support of their families.

The members of our team are fathers, brothers, uncles and friends of the children in our lives and we're looking to raise 50,000 on our two-week ride across the southern US. We need help. We need people to pledge donations on our web site and we need people along our route to hold fundraising events to help us make this trip a success. We're also looking for a caravan or RV to use on the trip, to house the team and double as our medical station and places to sleep along the way.

Team members will track our adventure on this blog.

If you can, please make a donation, help us raise money along the way or at least follow along with us here and tell other people about us.

SAAAAAAAAAAAARTH AFRIKA

By Ian Price2, 2008-11-08
The Boer has descended upon Taffland once again. Kairdiff council has banned undue merriment lest it upset The Dutch Reform Church and only lager will be sold.Wales have managed the not inconsiderable feat of losing to South Africa three times in the space of a single year. Optimism abounds however as a largely untested and unfit Welsh side take on the World Champions once again. Is this some kind of joke?

A Child's Christmas in Wales" Adapted from the story by Dylan ThomasDirected by Kathleen Maki

One of the most enduring, yet often forgotten Christmas memoirs, Dylan Thomass A Childs Christmas in Wales comes to life at Stone Soup Theatre. A Childs Christmas in Wales recreates the nostalgic magic of Dylan Thomas childhood Christmas when everything was brighter, better and more alive. However, what Dylan comes to realize is that the experience of Christmas doesnt change with time, but holds a place in our hearts that nothing else can fill. Performers include our youth conservatory students and professional adult actors. Come watch Dylan recreate Christmas at Stone Soup with live classic Welsh instrumentation and vocals that bring us right back in time

Remember Remember

By Ian Price2, 2008-11-05
Remember rememberThe 5th of NovemberGunpowder treason and plotI see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot. It's that time of the year again when millions of pounds of fireworks go up in smoke. Guy Fawkes night usually goes off with a bang. So much so that no one can now let air bombs off after 10 30 at night. Cwmparc is renkowned for harbouring a few bone heads who think it's the height of good taste to explode about a hundred air bombs at midnight for thirty minutes. Ican hardly wait for the fun to start.
