The ancient art of Daiku

The rules of the ancient art of Daiku are similar to, although simpler than, Japanese haiku:

Five (5) syllables in the first line,
Seven (7) in the second,
Five (5) in the third -

and the poem contains a beer or curry allusion, but, unlike Haiku, Daiku is cooperative: one person writes the first line, another person the second, another person the third, then start another paragraph/daiku as a new discussion here:

http://americymru.ning.com/group/daiku/forum/topic/new?

- DON'T do it as a comment on the group -

After the third line is added, the completed (and 'amended' if necessary - amendments underlined) Daicw will be posted with attributions.

Arf!!

There once was a Welsh dog named 'Cw'
Whose taxonomy rhymed with 'Haiku'
Though to his aged tadcu
He was a son-of-a-cu (ci)
And Cw's mother was one of those too!

Arf!!

mae drwg 'da fi--wrth gwrs, "dog" ydy "ci"!

My point still stands(I did have a point)--if it is to rhyme with "Haiku" it needs to be "Daicw". "Cu" and "ci" are pronounced the same.

'Diacu' means 'Grand David!' - just as 'tadcu' means 'grandfather'!

'Dog' is 'ci', or 'cwn'

But now it means "David Dog"! It ought to be "Daicw," methinks.

Ok, I fixed the name - no "K" in Welsh so it's "really" Daicu -

Yes, - it should be 5 then 7 then 5 - mostly it should be fun but some of the fun is struggling to make it fit!

I think I understand, but I must take off my boxing gloves - I'm having trouble correctly counting the number of syllables permitted (required) and those employed in the initial sampling

Line 1 has the requisite 5 (unless, like I, you say 'bee-uh', in which it is 6
Line 2 has only 6, instead of 7 (maybe it should be 'the hot curry is eaten)
and Line 3 has 6 instead of 5 (maybe 'the' in place of 'yawning' - or else 'gut' in place of 'belly'??
