100 year old photos of Welsh landmarks found in U.S archives

This is a collection of old images of Wales that give a glimpse as to what life was life in Llangollen, Denbigh and beyond 100 years ago - and, of all the places, the images turned up in the U.S, in the archives of the Library of Congress in Washington.

check out this link for the whole story. Make sure you check the links on the page as they link to Flicker where the Welsh photos from the Library of Congress have been placed. 6,882 I think although I have not checked all of them. :)

The traditional Welsh ladies costumes bring back fond memories of St David's Day in the Rhondda Valleys. It was an age old tradition for all the girls to attend on that day in our traditional clothing. Excellent link!!!

Quite remarkable! Thanks! I assume these are colorized black and white photos from 1909 and before. I have postcards and formal photos from that time from Colorado and Arizona, and the colorizing was pretty universal. Some of them show "wild wales" looking a lot like the mountains of New Hampshire looked at that time, and some show houses, farms, tourist spas and mines as they looked in those days with an occasional glimpse of a patient human figure posing for the camera. The subjects must have been chosen for their positive associations; no muckraking journalism here. It gives an image of a time before cars and auto-roads. I see some images of railroad lines, which must have been everywhere, and I see no telegraph wires, though there must have been some, and no traces of electric infrastructure, though there would have been some electric lights in the towns.
