Some thoughts on grief.

So, I am an American; and as much as I hate to admit it, I think my view of the world is pretty small.  Now, not to take anything away from America, our news is very tailor-made--American news about Americans doing American things. (Normally, they are rich, pretty; but that is a different rant.) Stuff to make you feel good or to make you feel guilty, but not really to inform.  We get used to that, and easily work those short term responses into our daily lives and move on. The State of Man

Posted on March 27, 2012 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I used to believe that Freedom was the natural state of Humankind.  In reflecting, I have changed my mind.  Slavery is the natural state of Man: Man will invariably seek either to subdue his fellow man, or to himself be subjected to others or to his own passions--for women, for power, for drink, etc.

Freedom, then, is Mankind's proper station, but it is one hard won and hard kept.  Any person--especially any leader--unwilling to promote or even to defend Liberty is it's…

Hit and Run

Some of you might remember (Just the FB folks) that last spring our fair city decided that the folk on my block were not responsible enough to have our trash collected in the large metal dumpsters nor picked up in the alley, and were all given plastic roll-out dumpsters.

I hate them.

Nevertheless, there they are, and we have learned to deal (after the city ignored our numerous requests for redress, but I digress). Well, last night in the wee hours, My wife and…

The Celt and The Chist: The Narrative Society and the Importance of The Scriptures

Posted on February 19, 2012 at 12:00pm 0 Comments

Our ancestors were by and large illiterate. While there was ogham in Ireland and while some Gauls did use Roman or Greek characters to inscribe temples and records in the Hellenistic and Roman eras (eg, the Coligny Calendar and a good many Galatian finds), writing was primarily unknown (or at least unpreserved) among the common folk. Nonetheless, before the Gallic Wars, the Celtic tribes were the dominant economic…

Hi Mathew,

In answer to your comment which I've only just seen in its wholeness.

Yes, the Tudor flag and the Sant Dewi flag is sometimes flown alongside the Glyndŵr flag in Cymru - especially on Dydd Gwyl Dewi and, dare I say it, the Dydd Gwyl Dewi flag as it stands, could open up another can of worms as to the authenticity of that but, I'll leave that to someone else. My - and Embassy Glyndwr's concern is in having one authentic national flag, the one that's associated with out greatest warrior heroes, as a national flag - a flag that will mean and say something concrete as a means of uniting and forging our nation; something that has not happened since the Great War of Independence of Prince Owain Glyndŵr. I know its not going to happen overnight, we have worked hard in the promotion of it for over 12 yrs already, but, we are not working hard on this because we've got nothing better to do I can assure you. We are working hard towards achieving the aim because we seriously believe that our nation needs this strong symbolism if it is to unite as a strong nation that means business. I'm attaching a picture of Dafydd Elis Thomas, the then presiding officer, accepting a gigantic Glyndŵr flag off Embassy Glyndwr in 2001. I'm also attaching a pic of that flag flying outside the National Assembly on 16th September, Owain Glyndŵr Day.

Both flags (This one and a similar gigantig one which the Ntional Eisteddfod flies annually) were sponsored by Welsh Castle Crafts, Caerdydd.

Hi Matthew,

I am also part Seneca and Oneida of the Six Nations of Iroquois people.

Yes, I have photos of me in my Shawnee 1700s style regalia. I dance at pow-wows in this reglia tht honors my Native American ancestotrs as well as my early Welsh ancestors to America. I will try to send a photo to you.

My photo is also on the cover of the Welsh magazine, "Y CasSlwr"  for the Rhif 90 Rhifyn Haf 2007 (whatever that means)  issue, along with an article inside this magazine. . I don't speak the Welsh language. Our American government forbade us from speaking our languges. This in the late 1800s to early 1900s, therefore all of our language is now gone, including our Algonkin and Welsh words. Have the English aso forced their language down the throats of the Welsh? I do realize that a few of you still speak Welsh. Please teach Welsh words  to your children, before it goes the way of my languages.  We were not alowed to speak anything other than English. Our chilfdren who were attending white run schools, were beaten for speaking anything other than English. However, many of us still know that we are Native Americans, nd we are now bringing back our culture! Our federal government wishes that we would "just go away" but we will not give the government that "satisfaction", since we still outnumber Americans of European ancestry!  And we don't play rheir "blood quantum" games! Especially we who don't live on reservations and are not looking for "government welfare handouts"! We  are the ones that theour  government fears.

You may contact me at: lonewlf99@aol.com, as well! I can send photos from here, much easier.

Hi Matthew,

As a Shawnee-White Madoc Native American, I will stick to wearing my breechcloths front and back along with my leggings strapped to the belt that holds my breechcloths up. However, I honor my Welsh heritage with a  red Welsh Dragon stitched to the front breechcloth and it is outlined in white seed beeds.

No "cilts or kilts" for me, even though I also carry a bit of Scot blood from my 4x great-grandmother, captured by my Shawnees in the 1700s. She became Shawnee by her own choice. I wear her Scot clan sash hanging from my left shoulder near my heart to honor her.

I also carry Welsh DNA from Welsh settlers captured by my people in America in the 1200s.  A long story. We adopted them into our Shawnees and they became much better people for the transition.

In the 1700s, Shawnees were the "worst nightmare" of the British and British-American armies.

I honor my long-ago Scot and Welsh ancestors. My Native American heritage is primary,  but I honor all ancestors including those of European heritage.

Question: do Welsh people have clan sashes like the Scots do?  And if so, mine would be the family of your "Prince Madoc" from the 1100s.
