Profile Information

About Me:
I am a Shawnee-White Madoc Native American, possibly a descendent of Prince Madoc of Wales who came to America in 1170 with a group of Welsh settlers in 1170.
These Welsh became Shawnees, long before Christopher Coumbus "discovered" Haiti, and long before this Italian was ever born. My people spoke Algonkin mixed with Welsh up until about 1830, when Andrew Jackson and his type of whites destroyed our culture.

Merriwether Lewis' birthday.

Posted on August 18, 2009 at 3:12pm 5 Comments

Bezahn (Greetings) from one of those "lost Welsh Indians",

Merriwether Lewis is a white family member of mine. Today is his birthday. Merriwether and Thomas Jefferson were looking in the wrong place for those "lost Welsh Indians", who weren't lost at all, but were among the Shawnees living in the Pittsburgh area for centuries. We are still there.

Pittsburgh was where the boat was built for the Lewis and Clark expedition. Ironically, it may have been some of the "lost Welsh… Read more →

Ken, I was wondering if you would be willing to share some of the stories of the Mandan people an their contact with the Welsh.  You had alluded to that earlier, I thought that that story might make for some neat epic style poetry (plus, I hear some of the Mandan ended up in my State of NE, so it is a neat 'local' bit on info for me.)

Evening, Ken!

I know some of the databases are having issues and it's being looked into. Don't give up hope, yet, lol.

That's quite a spread of geography in your history! How awesome! Sort of a touch of everything. :)

I have a little Israeli, German, and French but otherwise my ancestry is all Celtic. I still proudly call myself an American and while I can't necessarily claim the same length of American heritage as you can, I still proudly claim a good four hundred or so years of it. So I always say my blood is Celtic and my heart is American. :) Two complementary concepts, I think!

Please excuse me.. I meant Native American, earlier. I apologize:)

Dia duit, a Ken! (hello!)

A Welsh Indian with Scots.. those are some pretty darn powerful blood lines, my friend! :)

It's a pleasure to meet you! One of my best friends is half Lakota, down south in Arkansas. When my oldest daughter was born, he bought her a little stuffed buffalo and a book full of Lakota stories; it was wonderful! Beautiful, dark, dangerous, and wonderful. :)

I'm Welsh through both sides of my family, with the additional heritage: Irish coming in from my Daddy's side, and English and French from my mama, but (like you and English), I don't claim the French, much, and just can't seem to hide the English, lol. Most of my ancestry can be traced to the Vikings, though, which is pretty interesting.. nothing quite so alive and close as Native American, though. :)

Thank you for the welcome! Again, it was wonderful to meet you!

Fiona

Ken I wanted to thank you for your reply on the Welsh Indians, I for one belive that the story true about Prince Madoc. But where they landed and what ever happened to them is a mystery, is the story you told me passed down through your tribe. I find it very interesting that the anicents were much more advanced than what they are given credit for. I have also read the stories about Lewis and Clark's travels and have travaled some of the same places they travald. As to why the Gov. wont let you family members exhume his body one only has to look at what insane rules we all have to live under. Have you ever heard of David Thompson of Canada, he worked for the Hudson Bay Co as a survaior that is also a great read and he got along well whith most of the natives he came across. Norm

Hi Norm,

Incidentally, Merriwether Lewis is a white cousin of mine down through the white side of my family lineage. We family members are trying to get Lewis' body exhumed, since he was murdered and did not commit suicide!  He was shot several times, not just the once. His secret papers from the expedition to the west coast, which were written in code,  and to be delivered to President Thomas Jefferson, personally,  were stolen from his body, and never found since then.

Our federal government is blocking we family members from exhuming Merriwether Lewis' body.

Why?
