Getting by on less

Posted on March 8, 2013 at 11:10am 1 Comment

Our taxes went up at the beginning of this current year--2013. As a result, our disposable income will be about $1,250.00 less this year than it was last. It may not be an enormous increase but it means we will have to adjust our spending downward in order to compensate. I haven't complained about it because what good would it do? Taxpayers are always given the same, coy answer. They are told resolutely that "for the greater good" they must learn to tighten their belts: Economize, economize,…

I agree--it's COLD outside!

Posted on January 24, 2013 at 9:28am 6 Comments

What does it mean when the weather presenter on the telly says it's -40 degrees Celsius and weatherman on the television says it's -40 degrees Fahrenheit? Obviously, it means that it's...COLD! But for viewers on both sides of the "pond" it also means the temperature is the same!

The Fahrenheit and Celsius scales come together at: -40 degrees below "0" zero.

I've personally witnessed the convergence of the two scales. In fact, the coldest temperature I've ever…

We didn't have that "Green Thing"

After reading Philip Stephen Rowland excellent blog entitled We Was Brung Up Proper I came across this post which reminded me of Philip's blog. I am not the author and the post was not credited. It simply said the writer observed an elderly woman at the grocery market. He observed her being gently scolded by the cashier when she requested "Plastic..."

Kate - The Duchess of Cambridge

Posted on September 16, 2012 at 8:18am 23 Comments

As a Welsh-American I am ambivalent towards the Royals. My grandfather was a dedicated nonconformist and believed the Twdors were the last to hold a rightful claim to the British throne. He was a firm believer that Owain Glyndwr was the last, true Prince of Wales.

That said, I want to state in the strongest terms possible that in my opinion the French magazine which published the semi-nude pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge while she honeymooning in a remote, private villa in France…

I laughed when reading what you said about frogs.  The human baby is not large, usually, but it is amazing how much work is required in rearing it. I expect this is why we bond for life with our children.

Hello from Maryland, USA, Ms. Morgan. I visited Wales in 2006 and it literally changed my life. I'm reading everything I can get my hands onto about Wales. Both sets of my grandparents are from Wales and I'm planning my next trip there. This may sound like a silly question but is there are particular region of the country that the Morgan family name originates? Thanks.

Hallo, Harold, from a cold frosty Haverfordwest. I've noticed on your page that you have roots in Penclawdd. I went to Gowerton Grammar School, about three miles from Penclawdd. I now live about fifty miles from there.

Whilst I have no American relatives my husband's uncle went to Pennsylvania, in the twenties and taught music in Sharpesville High School. His son John, who came over to visit us twice, lived in Colorado Springs.

(I apologise for calling you Howell in my reply last time.)

Hallo,Harold,

I read your blog about calories with interest.  I'm always trying not to overeat. A small sweet before a meal takes my appetite away! (Not to be recommended on health grounds, though.

Nice to meet you, Gill
