Comment by Sian Ifan on June 21, 2012 at 10:48am That's Owain Glyndwr Day - Day of Independence when he started his great War of Independence 16th Sept 1400. We celebrate 3 days in Cymru now.
28th May - Owain Glyndwr's birthdate.
21 June Coronation - Parliament - Sovereignty Day
16 Sept Owain Glyndwr - Independence Day.
Comment by Matthew D. Reese on June 21, 2012 at 9:54am I saw the Glyndwr flag, and should have looked it up. Thanks for sharing the photo and the story!
Comment by Sian Ifan on June 21, 2012 at 9:44am Sorry Mathew, the wording went on the next message. My fault, I should have placed the crown and the wording on a blog. Its 21 June today and on this date in 1404, Owain Glyndwr was crowned as Prince of Wales - the people's choice at Machynlleth in Cymru. He also established his Welsh Parliament at around the same time in the same town and Cymric Patriots look at both these things as symbolisms of our sovereignty. The original Owain Glyndŵr crown has long been lost (spoils of the occupation) at the end of the Owain Glyndŵr War of Independence more than likely. You can read up more on all this in the archives of my blog Cenedl Glyndŵr. Hope this helps.
Best Wishes
Siân
