The Left Coast Eisteddfod will be held in Portland, Oregon in October ( 3rd - 10th ) 2010. More details about live events and venues will be announced shortly. Winners of all online and live events will be announced at the Eisteddfod. All competitions are open to both Americymru and non-Americymru members. Follow the links below for details of 2010 competitions..... where to enter, submission rules, prize details etc. There are also links to information about our judges and some examples of last years winning entries. For inquiries and further information about the event please email americymru@gmail.com We would like to take this opportunity to wish all who are considering entering one or more of our competitions the very best of luck.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: You do not need to be Welsh or of Welsh descent to enter any of the Left Coast Eisteddod competitions. Nor do you need to be a member of AmeriCymru. We would urge you to study the Rules for Submission in the various competition categories. The simplest way to submit is, however, to join the site and we urge anyone who wishes to compete but is not of Welsh heritage to sign up and indicate on your profile page that you are 'Here for the Eisteddfod'. You will be afforded the same welcome as any other member. All competition categories are judged solely on merit.

Competitions

 

To enter one of the competitions click on the group links below. PLEASE do not forget to read the relevant rules of submission before entering. ALL competitions are open to non-Americymru members but once again please read the rules before submitting your entry. They differ slightly for members and non-members. Winners will be announced at the Left Coast Eisteddfod in October 2010.

 

Poetry Competition
You may submit your entry in either Welsh or English. The two language categories will be judged separately and there will be a prize for each. There is a US150 dollars (approximately 100GBP ) prize for the winners in both categories.

 

Visual Image Competition
Croeso/Welcome to the Left Coast Eisteddfod Visual Image Competition. Here you can submit THREE photographs in the categories defined below and compete for a first place cash prize of $150 in each category.

 

Short Story Competition
Submit stories in the short story category here. Each story (and any links) must be added as a separate discussion in the group forum

The Judges

 

Peter Thabit Jones will judge the poetry competition ( English language submissions ). He is the author of several anthologies of poetry including 'The Lizard Catchers'. Peter is also the editor and founder of 'The Seventh Quarry', an international poetry journal.

Lloyd Jones is the author of two novels, 'Mr Vogel' and 'Mr Cassini', and has recently published his first collection of short stories ( 'My First Coloring Book' ). Lloyd is also the author of several works in the Welsh language including his recently published novel Y Dwr. He is the judge of our short story competition.

 

Internationally renowned photographer Glyn Davies will be judging the Left Coast Eisteddfod Visual Image Competition for the second year running. For more information about Glyn follow this link. John Wake will judge the 2010 Left Coast Eisteddfod Video Competition. He is an experienced Trade Director of two Welsh Tourist Boards, CRT and TPMW. Media Contributor (Tourism). He initiated Cardiff's 'hop on - hop off' open top guided tours. He has also presented lectures on Wales around the world including 'The Smithsonian Institute', Washington DC. Welsh Tourism Personality of the Year, 2000.

 

 

Geraldine Mac Burney will judge the Poetry Competition ( Spanish Language Category ) Geraldine was born in the Welsh settlement of Gaiman, Chubut, Patagonia Argentina and has participated in various Eisteddfods held in the colony, as well as in Wales. Member of Welsh “Gwanwyn” dance group from Trelew. Awarded in various literary competitions including a gold medal for best Spanish-language poetry in the Youth Eisteddfod of 2001, 2003 and 2009; also File Filiochta International Poetry Competition, Dun Lahogaire, Ireland 4th Prize awarded by Instituto Cervantes in Dublin and also silver crown for the best Spanish language poetry in the Eisteddfod del Chubut 2009. Nowadays, terminating studies in law and notarial law at the Catholic University of Cordoba, having previously studied Media, Film and Communication at the University of Bangor, Wales.
