- I am sixty eight years old, a retired headteacher. I live in west Wales, and self-published the story of Lucy Walter, Welsh mistress of Charles 11. At sixty seven my next novel 'Salt Blue' was publsihed by 'Honno'. the story is about a young girl growing up in a claustrophobic community in Wales in the fifties. following a crisis she flies PanAm to New York and returns a different person.

We've had two cats - strays also. My youngest son was very attached to the last one we had, and was (and is) very tender-hearted. He was maybe 8 years old when it died. We told the kids while at the table, and he let out a scream that was one of the most heart-rending sounds I've ever heard in my life. Pure anguish and grief. I can still see my wife's eye's go wide, and then we both ran to try to comfort him (Dad's getting a bit "misty" a decade later just remembering it). To this day he remembers where that cat is buried, and woe betide anyone who site a piece of lawn furniture there.
