Be This Month's Top Blogger

We are going to be offering a prize each month to the 'Top Blogger' on AmeriCymru as determined by our bright new shiny Leaderboard algorithm ( with a little subjective weighting- see this post ). We extend a special welcome to anyone visiting the site from the AmeriCymu blog. Please join AC if you wish to participate in our monthly competition. See rules below.

  • What does the algorithm do? Basically it determines the most popular blog ( and other ) content on the site on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The ranking is based on number of hits, comments etc. For anyone who really wants to obsess about it, check the links in the previous sentence for the daily and monthly rankings. This is the weekly stats page.

  • What will we be giving prizes for? We will be giving a prize to the person who, at the end of each month, has the most and highest ranked blogposts in the top twenty. A post at the number one spot will earn 20 points. A post at the number twenty spot will earn 1 point. After totaling the points for each member the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded accordingly. Points are also awarded for quality, quantity and popularity - see this post .
  • When will the winner be announced? First of each month.
  • How do I enter? You will need to submit a blog post in each week of the month to qualify. Posts need not be long ( shoot for a minimum of 250 words although that figure is not written in stone and certainly does not apply to photo blogs with accompanying commentary ). Remember to make the content relevant to the site, its members and readers and as interesting/stimulating/controversial as you can.
  •

You can get a rough idea of your current ranking by looking at our broadcast email page which will be sent out to members every Tuesday ( approx ) or by looking at this page which is linked from the dropdown list under 'Blogs' on the main navbar . Site admins are not eligible for this competition but moderators ARE. Anyone who succeeds in winning the No. 1 position for three months ( non-consecutively ) will be ineligible for a prize for three months from the date of their last win AND entered into our Top Blogger Hall of Fame. Three time winners will not be prohibited from blogging nor will their entries cease to  appear on the ranking board below. BUT there will be a three month hiatus during which they will be ineligible to receive prizes. This provision is to ensure that everyone gets their chance to shine. I hope all of the above makes reasonable sense :)

Check out our 'fabulous' range of digital graphic awards for 'Top Blogger' winners to display proudly on their pages :)

  • Add a blog post HERE ( you will need to be logged in to AmeriCymru ).

  • ( Anyone wanting to make use of this new feature, which we will be promoting heavily, to gain extra exposure for their work or to gain extra traffic to their site should remember to tag posts accurately and include a link to their blog or website in the text...diolch. )

Win a signed copy of 'The Dead of Mametz' by Jonathan Hicks

The Dead of Mametz is a crime novel with an unusual setting, set as it is against the backdrop of the famous battle of Mametz Wood during the Great War in the summer of 1916. Several events also take place in Barry and Swansea. The central character, Thomas Oscendale, is a captain in the Military Police who is charged with investigating the murder of two soldiers of the Welsh Regiment and, subsequently, that of a local Frenchwoman.

Overview

It is early July 1916, the third year of the First World War. The soldiers of the Welsh Division are poised to begin their assault on the German-held Mametz Wood. But there is a murderer in their ranks.

Captain Thomas Oscendale of the Military Police is in a race against time to apprehend the murderer and to find what lies buried in Mametz Wood. He is not alone. Sinister forces on both sides have taken an interest in his investigation and are closing in.
