Y Tylwyth Teg

The Fair Family of Wales also known as Bendith Y Mamau (the Mother’s Blessing), a euphemism used to avert kidnappings and other mischief. Their euphemistic name in Dyfed (Pembrokeshire) is Dynon Bach Teg, which means Little Fair Folk and their name is sometimes spelled Twlwwth Teg. They are also known as Gwarwyn a Throt (the white napped one with the trot), Jili Ffrwtan (a name for those Y Tylwyth Teg females who are proud and amorous), Sili Ffrt, Sili-go-Dust, and Trwtyn Tratyn. The Welsh name for Faeryland is Gwlad y Tylwyth Teg, and their king is Gwyn ap Nudd, the Celtic God of the Dead.

So let us have a revival of Y Tylwyth Teg, are the Cymru the only group not standing up in the World of the Fae? It is time to dig up our past, dust off the old books, dredge up what few paintings & illustrations we have and inspire a NEW WAVE OF CYMRU GWLAD Y TYLWYTH TEG.

I have been researching the Fair Folk to include in my novel and as an off-shoot trilogy. I have found many of the sites you all have posted here very interesting! It took my 5 years to research the druids, Romans, and the last battle of the druids in the 1st century, which my first trilogy is based around. So, bear with me, but I will probably ask many questions as my project moves along. I am so glad Brian suggested the groups! I hope to make many friends here:)

Yes advertising is a skill that passed us by. We have a rich history and rich lehends, but most people have no idea, and I mean in side Wales as well as out side. Two main problems is Hollywood is not interested, and the only people in Wales who produce these types of programes are the Welsh medium channels, this means a very small outlet and no chance of other chanels showing the program. We do need a strong Welsh Identity that is promoted through the medium of English. That's how the Scotts and Irish do it.

Ahhh! Y Tylwyth Teg! I'd be happy to meet a few Jili Ffrwtan any day! Might
even offer to buy them a pint or two!
