AmeriCymru is an excellent platform for the novice blogger and the established blogger who is seeking additional exposure for his/her blog. ALL posts on AmeriCymru are syndicated via our networks on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Tumblr etc. and may be selected to appear in our weekly newsletter which is distributed to our growing membership and via social media. We accept posts of Welsh, Welsh-American or general interest from members and additionally we run a Top Blogger competition with a brand new prize each month. For further information about blogging on AmeriCymru see our Guide to Tagging page which serves as an introduction to the platform in general.
Guide to Tagging
If you want your post to be properly indexed and searchable by Google, Bing etc it is important to add relevant tags. When tagging always bear in mind the subject matter of the post and the keywords people will likely be using to locate it. Also bear in mind that 'keyword density ' is a consideration. Lets suppose that your post is about Welsh customs. It will help enormously if the words 'Welsh customs' are contained in the title and preferably at the beginning. The url of your post is determined with reference to the title. If your main keyword/keyowrds are contained in both the title and the url then the relevance of your post to a 'Welsh customs' search will increase enormously.
Your main keywords should also occur several times in the text BUT not in such a way that it appears forced or unnatural . Search engines will penalise you for 'keyword stuffing'. Six or seven repeats is optimal in a post of average length ( 500 - 750 words )
An important point to remember where AmeriCymru is concerned ( although this does not necessarily apply elsewhere ) is that you must place multiple word key phrases in quotation marks. So, followig the above example, you would enter Welsh customs in the tag field ( see pic below ) as follows "Welsh customs". If you do not place quotation marks around your key phrase the platform will enter each term as a single keyword. This is important because more than 20% of searches use multiple words or phrases. So , on AC in order to place highly in those search results you MUST use quotation marks.
Other Points of Interest
You can if you wish, limit comments or turn them off altogether ( see above ). You can also choose to moderate comments. This mweeans that you will get to see the comments first and choose whether or not to pulish them.
You can opt to publish your post at a later date.
You can post to your Facebook and Twitter accounts ( if you have associated them with your AC account in your homepage settings ) by clicking the Share boxes ( see above ) and adding a message in the text field.
ALSO if you are adding images to your blog post it is important to remember to use the alt and title tags. A great deal of traffic comes from image searches these days and the search engines rely on the alt and title tags for indexing purposes. You will need to switch to HTML view in the text editor to add these tags.
