Learn the Welsh National Anthem

Welsh National Anthem

If you learn the first two stanzas, then you will be prepared to sing the Welsh National Anthem at any Rugby game!

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau
Land of My Fathers

Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi,
Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri;
Ei gwrol ryfelwyr, gwladgarwyr tra mâd,
Dros ryddid collasant eu gwaed.

(chorus)
Gwlad, gwlad, pleidiol wyf i'm gwlad.
Tra môr yn fur i'r bur hoff bau,
O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau.

Translation: one of several that you can find on Wikipedia Land of My Fathers The land of my fathers, the land of my choice,
The land in which poets and minstrels rejoice;
The land whose stern warriors were true to the core,
While bleeding for freedom of yore.

(chorus)
Wales! Wales! fav'rite land of Wales!
While sea her wall, may naught befall
To mar the old language of Wales.

I love to hear the Welsh National Anthem sung in the stadium before a rugby match- nothing finer!

This link ought to take you to Lorraine King's very clear version of the anthem

....maybe you all have heard it, but one of my favorite versions is by Bryn Terfel... stunning.... it's available on itunes... I think, if I recall correctly, it is on his We'll Keep a Welcome cd (which actually has 2 versions, the long and the short version)....
