What Is A Grand Slam?

From the Wikipedia:- "In rugby union, a Grand Slam occurs when one team in the Six Nations Championship (or its predecessors) manages to beat all the others during one year's competition or when a touring side from one of the Southern Hemisphere nations plays and defeats all four Home Nations sides in a single tour. The last team to have won the Six Nations Grand Slam was Ireland in 2009, and the last team to win a Grand Slam tour was New Zealand, in 2008."

Well one thing for certain..it wasn't Scotland...or the worst French team in living memory...I think it was the ghosts of the 1970s team ...having one last perfect game for one last time before heading off to rugby heaven! Boz

Thank you Philip!

Police report-Can you help? Breaking News:South Wales Police have asked for witness`s to come forward regarding a brutal crime against 15 Englishmen on a recent visit to Cardiff who were robbed of a Grand Slam they had come to collect and also had their chariot badly vandalised during the visit to the Welsh capital.

...Apparently this heinous crime was carried out by a gang of 15 Welsh guys dressed in bright red shirts...in broad daylight in front of 75,439 people who gathered around the gang attack and just stood there cheering, clapping and singing hymns and arias as if they were encouraging the gang.

A police spokesman for the South Wales force said " This sort of attack is just sickening....One of the victims was a young lad called Owen Farrell who was on his first trip to Wales and has been traumatised by the whole shocking experience and to make it worse his father was forced to watch the entire crime from start to finish and could not lift a finger to help his son and his mates from the sickening and relentless battering meted out by the conspicuously dressed red shirted gang.

The police spokesman continued, " We are following a number of leads and believe this crimson shirted gang may be linked to a similar attack carried out in Twickenham a year ago."

Nice one Cyril....we must take pity on our friends across the border...there has been a huge slice of humble pie being eaten...there is bound to be a twickenham backlash next year...but let's enjoy it while it lasts and ask which country in the world has the most registered rugby union players ...but still cannot beat the Cymru...I believe we will shortly have more British lions than longleat ....boz

What an outstanding display of physical high pressure rugby by a Welsh squad on home soil with a record winning score. The English team was outclassed and outplayed in all positions.A proud day to be Welsh. The counsels in the Cardiff areas had workers out on Sunday morning clearing away the broken down chariots that had swung to low.

Wales 35  England 13

Apparently, England have never won a Grand Slam in Cardiff, it cannot be allowed to happen.  I expect Wales to gear up today, with George North, who has been relatively quiet this campaign, to run rampant.

Final week

  • If England win against Wales, England will win the Championship, Grand Slam and Triple Crown.
  • If England and Wales draw, England wins on championship points (England 9, Wales 7).
  • If Wales win:
  • If the margin is 6 points or fewer, England win on point difference.
  • If the margin is 8 points or more, Wales win on point difference.
  • If the margin is 7 points, each team will have scored the same number of points and the team with the greater number of tries in the tournament wins, otherwise the title is shared - Wales go into the match with 7 tries against England's 5.
  • France, Ireland and Italy are the only teams that can finish bottom with the Wooden Spoon.

Everybody is talking about a poor English performance...but let's focus on how well the new Zealand italian reserve team played...they have been the delight of the six nations...like the lasagne in Wales...real dark horses...I hope that Ryan jones injury isn't too serious as there aren't that many good ball carriers like him...although local boy Coombes is the find of the season....come on Wales...it is back in your hands now!
