What Is A Grand Slam? From the Wikipedia:- "In rugby union, a Grand Slam occurs when one team in the Six Nations Championship (or its predecessors) manages to beat all the others during one year's competition or when a touring side from one of the Southern Hemisphere nations plays and defeats all four Home Nations sides in a single tour. The last team to have won the Six Nations Grand Slam was Ireland in 2009, and the last team to win a Grand Slam tour was New Zealand, in 2008."

Comment by alwyn parry on March 20, 2012 at 9:37pm well it was certainly worth getting up at 2.00am and standing lonely in my pyjamas singing 'hen Wlad fy Nhadau ' without one objection from the sheep in the paddock next door. Then to watch the game live just as if I was there... now I can look forward to Wales visiting Australia and I might just cross over the ditch for one or two of the games. .

Now some footage:
First, the dramatic final 2 minutes - we had to keep the ball at hand. A turn-over could have led to a French try, which if converted, could have led to a tied match - and NO Grand Slam:
Second: The trophy presentation and the champagne celebration. Da iawn!
Comment by Rich Meredith on March 18, 2012 at 10:41am I second that! Well done everybody especially the boys back home!!
Sorry I was missing for the final game.. I was moving to Minnesota so everything got in a bit of a tangle!

From the comfort of a Sunday morning armchair - well, the semi-comfort of a swivelling desk-chair:
Here are my concluding remarks on the 2012 RBS Six Nations Rugby Tournament - which I found well worth the $99.99 I spent to watch all 15 matches - AND have them archived for reruns!
Not to rub it in - to our Celtic brethren north of Hadrian's Wall - but Italy deserves to be recognized for avoiding receipt of - in fact, handing to their Scottish opponents on Saturday - the WOODEN SPOON.
The Italian team showed a vast improvement of prior year's squads. They thoroughly deseved their win - not just for Saturday's performance, but for their entire 6 Nations performances.
Ireland, found absolutely NO joy on what should have been a celebratory day for them. They had been valiant in the previous 4 matches, but were totally lacklustre against England - yet still ended up with the most accumulated points and tries scored.

Comment by Swansea Jack on March 17, 2012 at 8:29pm Awe shucks! That's so nice!
Comment by Ceri Shaw on March 17, 2012 at 8:13pm I'd like to second that motion. We've done this scoreline prediction thing on the site for 3 years now but NEVER has it been handled with such flair, panache and professionalism. A thousand diolchs to Swansea Jack and here's looking forward to doing it all again next year ....hopefully with the same result
