Here's a look back in time - at an old school acquaintance of mine in Swansea - Spencer Davis. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFaT69CyyKU
Back then, the 'GIMME' demand was just for "some luvin'"; now it's for more material things. How and when did we (society) get to this point?
How about this for a poem for WCE 2012 - titled 'Gimme' ?
You bastard! You're the envy of my eye,
You applied yourself better than I.
You took a student loan;
You studied subjects with functionality;
You got a better-paying job;
You repaid your student debt.
You invested your hard-won earnings;
You abided by established tax laws;
You knew some helped - and knew some hurt
You profited from your wise investments;
You studied your desire against your ability;
You carefully read mortgage agreements;
You made your repayments on time.
You voted in each past election;
You helped displace some of the bums.
You know there are still many more!
You will work to 'right' broken sytems;
You will help get the message out;
You know the power of polling booths -
You know that's the right place to shout!
You never once claimed 'I'm entitled';
You worked hard to get what you have;
You even gave aid to the poor.
You didn't ask debts be forgiven;
You didn't demand my stuff be yours.
You bastard! More like you, I wish I would be;
You didn't just camp, shouting 'GIMME'
